Some modifications for CitiesXL (tested and accepted)
moaku replied to Andre090904's topic in Cities XXL Custom Content Creation
@haltendehand: All he did was linking to the cxs forum, he didn't republished it. This is fine since it links to the threads YOU published and not directly to the file, so it credits you. -
@gianthaiku: "Monte cristo gave us a building customization editor" <-- Where and when did they gave us that already ?

Full Sandbox for Solo only 1.0.2
moaku replied to moaku's topic in Cities XXL Custom Content Creation
Got other mods installed ? This one should take priority on all others... If not, have you unzipped it to the correct dir ? (Cities XL\Paks) If yes, try removing all the other mods (move them to another dir or rename them to .bak)... If this solve the problem, please provide me a list of the mods you're using so I can ensure it's compatible with all of them, even if it should... If nothing does it, please run the game with the mod, activate a supposed-limited ressource, quit game, then send your last log file here. -

Humm, it seems to work... I just tested right now again... Just a few reminders: - It don't work in PO, this is not a bug, it's a feature - Unpause your game when activating a building tool (fuel pumps for example) until you have the layout shown, otherwise the layout will not load (this also apply without the mod) If reading this don't solve your problem, please tell me which map you are using and what resource layouts you tested "not working"... but I did them all, so if 1 works, all should work... -

@Ashy: No, it do not affect what the game checks during trading, so if you have negative cashflow, you can't buy. However, you may set Omnicorp Sell Price to 150 and Omnicorp Buy Price to 25 from cheat menu if you are in a such situation and really need to trade. @Globex: because full unlocking may unlock buildings it's not supposed to, and because i'm too lazy to ensure it's not the case yet, and because I don't want MC to restrict modding in a future version... So better no feature than untested / unsure feature. Anyway it's possible that I add it in the future, but not without ensuring it's "safe"... and even if it don't unlock everything, I find Expert mode a pretty fair deal for unlocking... Oh, and yeah, Happy New year everyone -
[UPD 12/22/09] Detail level enhancer (works fine with 392 and above)
moaku replied to moaku's topic in Cities XXL Custom Content Creation
not exactly... The "higher" version pushes details level a bit higher than original... somewhere between low and medium, and also should enable "cars instead of boxes"... So if "Low" runs fine for you, you may have a try of the "higher" mod using "Very Low" settings, it should work fine for you... The "highest" pushes details level higher-than-high for both very low and high settings... very low setting has shadows disabled, high has them enabled... both have cars instead of grey box everywhere. So, have a try on the "higher" file. -
@tom: So, if you're expecting SC5, don't buy it, you'll probably hate cxl at the moment you'll place your first zone and see those "same-size stinky squares". Have a look back on reviews in 3 to 6 months.

@tomfoolery_79: The game has much more potential than it could seems to have from an average-player point of view... However, it "worth" it only if you think the good points are good enough to compensate the bad points... before buying, if you plan to play online, you should wait for MC to have changed their economical approach with the whole planet offer, because now, nothing about PO costs and features (and so by extention also Solo available features) is certain and definitive yet. MC is currently rethinking it and suspended most payment modes for PO, so wouldn't be wise to subscribe now... Now about buying the game, it depend on what you expect... This game is really nice and have an huge potential for future additions / modifications / whatever... It's greatly enjoyable to play. It's main problem, for now, from my point of view, is that it's a bit too linear and a bit poor yet regarding content, even if subscribers regullary got a little "content pack". This "problem" should attenuate with time, mostly from content packs for subscribers, and by custom mods for solo game, but since MC was not ready for modding at the game release (and still not ready yet), you will have to wait a bit before "tons of custom contents" flourish everywhere... There are already a few mods available out there, but they were done without MC help. MC take care with modding because in PO it may lead to several cheating issues, so they prefer securing it a bit before "releasing the monster". Anyway, even without content packs or mods, you'll probably enjoy the game for some time, but after raising a few cities, you'll probably get bored, even more if you are limited in features because you're playing in solo mode.. To answer the question, I think it worth the 20$, but don't be affraid to retry your game a few months after you get bored, because it may radically change during that period... The online part had already some drastic additions since release (buses, medieval pack, ...), and the solo players also had a few additions... that make the game much more enjoyable that when it was released, lights by nights mentionned before for example... So short version: buy the game for 20$, but wait for MC to finish their "rethink of PO economic approach" to subscribe for online play...

Fixed, had the correct survey today. a bit vague on some points, but filled it anyway... @Ashy: thanks for the tip, but that would fake the statistics for the PO survey if I do that... and it's not what you want when you do a survey... It's more wise to abstain than to post random results.

[UPD 12/22/09] Detail level enhancer (works fine with 392 and above)
moaku replied to moaku's topic in Cities XXL Custom Content Creation
Use the "highest" version of this mod. It should have cars instead of grey boxes for both "Very Low" and "High" settings... High will enable shadows and lights, verylow will be almost the same but without shadows. EDIT: If it's not the case, please report it here. Should be the case so if not, i'll investigate and fix it. RE-EDIT: Fixed. Was not always happening but thanks globex for giving me the doubt. Redownload and you should not see grey boxes anymore. for both versions. -
[UPD 12/22/09] Detail level enhancer (works fine with 392 and above)
moaku replied to moaku's topic in Cities XXL Custom Content Creation
As far as i've tested, unfortunately, no It's possible to turn grey boxes in cars, but when you see no grey boxes, you won't see anything. Cars seems to only appear from a certain distance (which is reasonnable if you ask me) and this seem to be hardcoded, so unchangeable. Of course I can be wrong, don't forget that I have an old x800 pro, so the way it reacts on my config isn't necessarely the way it will with a recent graphic hardware. Anyway, it's also something I want to do with my old card, so if I find a solution, this mod will be quickly updated to include it. -

Somebody will have to translate. I only understood "70'000" and something about the future. quote> He's asked what he would consider as a success..... He replies by first giving some subscribers count for other mmos, and then that he would consider 100k subscriber to be a success, or more precisely he wants to reach that count "as quickly as possible", so you have your partial exact quote lol
-
Well, it's not an exact quotation, I've seen the interview in french... doesn't matter anyway... EDIT: hear it yourself if you understand french... http://www.teknologik.fr/news/video-cities-xl-prepare-sa-sortie-le-8-octobre-5073 the question is asked @ 08:00 in the video.

We already knew that, but thanks anyway

It's true that a change "in the right direction" is the more logical thing to expect.. If you add number of cities from all planets, you'll see that there is 51843 cities online... Players can have 1 to 5 cities, so it mean that they now have from ~ 10000 to 50000 players ... To these 10k to 50k, you also need to substract players who played online but not renewed their subscribtion, since it's still too early to see cities "expiring" and getting deleted for desertion of it's mayor... So, even if we can't get a really precise idea of their subscribers count and revenues yet, one thing is for sure anyway... We're really far from the "we hope reaching the 100k subscribers very quickly" that MC's CEO stated in an interview when asked how much players they expect online... so since doing something bad at this point would probably mean definitive commercial death of the game, even more after the 2-3 months subscr removal, it's wise to conclude that whatever they plan to change, it will have to be in the right direction this time... and if it's not... well, we'll know that we should not expect anything from them... So, good or not, this is a decisive move for them... can't wait to see what that will be

*Awaken dream mode on* To keep in the optimistic way, maybe they prepare something like making full PO free for everyone since 2010 and totally switch their economic approach to some DLC stuff, counting on GEM sales and on "Itemshop"/"Store"/Whatever you like to call that, but a webpage where you can buy in game content *Awaken dream mode off* Even if a such thing would greatly surprise me, it's still a possibility for a such removal... i'm surprised no1 even mentionned it within those 65 unrest posts Anyway, as AlemanXL stated, we should know what's behind this next month at worst. Just don't resubscribe when your offer expire if you're not happy with pricing"at the moment it expire conditions, and resubscribe later if things feels more fair to you... Check their website or the launcher news each few days to stay tuned on it and just wait for what you think is "acceptable conditions".
-
it is, as are all mods available at citiesxs forum. have fun !
-
lol, I just checked PO pricing page, you're right ! Sometimes I really don't understand them, but anyway, each time I have a big good laugh, thanks MC

moaku replied to moaku's topic in Cities XXL Custom Content Creation
Oh... and while i'm here... I have issues with recent versions... since 392... I first thought it was due to use of mods, but a freshly installed unmodded version also cause the same problem... My main problem is that my game crashes as soon as i'm zooming in more that the defaut-zoom level when there is something built where I zoom. I ask that inthere because I think it's probably a "too old gfx card" issue, related to shaders or lod or whatever... so.. Has someone with "old hardware" experienced some similar problems ? (PS: Matthew: if this problem is something already known by dev team already, don't hesitate to say it here or in a pm before I write a ticket about that ) (however, it would be my 1st ticket since beta ended.) EDIT: today's patch fixed my zooming issues, now all works fine even with the "highest" flavour of this mod Even if sometimes I'm doubtfull and maybe even angry, sometimes I love you MC (but see? unlike what I was answered when ticketed for that, it was definitely not a ram or too low hardware issue (well, may be related to that last point anyway, but doesn't matter now)) Thanks a lot ! -

Well, after a few weeks of inactivity(I was playing sims 3 world adventures for most of time for those who are wondering), Here is a packaged version working in 421 and hopefully every future version of this tweak-mod, I "ported" both base version and special version with even higher details. Unzip the file you choose to your Paks\ directory. I will update my others mods within the week. Have fun -
yes there are 2 ways... 1) Uninstall the game and reinstall it, watching carefully to stop updates after 383 2) Go to C:\Users\Your username\App Data\Local\Monte Cristo\Cities XL\download (path may vary... this is the path for Win7 and Vista... see other threads to find the path for XP if needed. - Copy all patches exe until the one that ends with "383" in the filename to where you have installed Cities XL - Edit your Version.cfg and set your version to 1 0 0 297 instead of 1 0 4 410 - Run all the patches in the order, starting from the first one (297_to_something) - STOP AT 383 if you have copied more patches than needed Now this applies for both methods, to stay under 383 once you're in... - Create a shortcut to launch the game offline (see thread "Cities XL Tweaks" if needed) - If you can't create the shortcut for any reason OR still want to use the launcher, re-edit your Version.cfg and make version number match the lastest version to avoid update (warning: this would have to be done at each update) Do NOT play online with a downgraded version. Server may or may not let you in, but if you're in, you'll probably be considered as a cheater / hacker and be banned from servers... to play online, use an up to date version. If you want to play both, BEFORE downgrading your game, just duplicate your game folder and keep the duplicata somewhere... So, you'll have an "up to date" version and a "moddable" one Oh, and make regulary a backup of your "patches" exe files... just in case one day MC decides to delete them to "prevent" downgrade... so you'll still have them somewhere to do the "bad thing" Have fun
-
No, there won't. If I publish an update to make it work, the update will be restricted in next patch... I published the sandbox to test their reaction about that... to see if they were sincere when saying that they can't allow modding since it allows online cheating... This sandbox was NOT affecting online play at all... so, the conclusion is easy... another lie from MC to "win time" and "appear to be nice guys"... they don't care about cheats, they just don't want mods... adding goofy restrictions as they learn something is doable instead of developping usefull things or a solution that would have been easier to setup that these restrictions... One more time , their actions speaks more than their words Good point, since I believe more in what I see that in what I ear about... if you're not happy with that, send complains to MC (maybe if enough ppl email them they will hear us and stop treating us as fools) about their approach in modding restriction, or stay in a version that is not that restricted... There still are ways to do it, but one thing is certain, I won't publish any mod now and keep them for me until MC stops their "catch the modder" game... I'm tired to see each mod I do "restricted" after only a few days... To Planet Offer Subscribers: Do you realize that you're actually paying MC developpers to restrict players modifications right now ? that they prefer adding restrictions to things that everyone wants but them (modding) than adding / modifying important features in the game ? To PO subscribers that are about to not renew their subscription: Don't forget to delete your cities before your account expires if you're sure to never resubscribe again... If you leave your cities on a planet, it would help MC pretend they have more subscribers than they have Anyway, the biggest battle for modding is still yet to come... I'm sure it's not the last time that MC will try to refrain modders... even after their "mods folder" is finished...

moaku replied to moaku's topic in Cities XXL Custom Content Creation
Yes, you perfectly understood the purpose of this mod.... MC greatly underestimate old graphic cards in their way of "checking them"... Maybe they have a partnership with hardware sellers ? I don't know if this mod is still working on 392 and above... I'm currently using a kind of crazy mix of 383 exe/dll and 392/93/96 content... so if someone using this mod is under 392 or above reads this, please let me know if it still works or not
