  1. The US's most pathetic highways

@mother of invention, i was on I-65 a couple of months ago on that stretch and i don't remember it being that bad. and i spent 2 months driving in northern indiana, and it didn't seem that bad...some were a little small but nothing horrible.
  2. The US's most pathetic highways

@sedimenjerry....haha have fun at that game...i'm a Red Raider and i'm loving the talk about my team this season...anyways back on topic...i doubt any US highway in Texas is worse than I-35 through Austin but I-35 is horrible all the way through Texas until almost Oklahome (including I-35E and I-35W). I hate it...
  3. Do Ports Upgrade

ok that's what i thought, but i couldn't find it in my plugins, but i know it's there cuz my seaport upgraded yesterday. lol. note: if the mod by mrtruesage unlocks the upgradable seaports, shouldn't it theoretically be possible to assign some sort of transit value or something to the city hall and then make the upgrade of that possible?
  4. Georgia and Russia basically at war

Originally posted by: Yeah_Right uniguy, i dont know why u hate russia. why woiuld we give citizenship to some random seperatists? they have been valuable citizens for so long. we bomb them because they need punishment for killing our citizens is my opinion (kind of, hard to explain what i think lol) we have not failed to comply with cease fire, we are just little slow i thinkquote> thats like saying Mexico has a right to bomb the US for forcefully removing people who are there and not legal citizens. Just cuz your citizens are in a country does not give you rights to that country, nor does it revoke the rights of that country to maintain their state through force if necessary as for Iraq, the US attacked Iraq looking for weapons of mass destruction based off of intelligence reports. By the way, according to the AP, the US did find 500 tons of yellow cake uranium...which is enough to create over 3500 atomic bombs like the ones dropped on japan at the end of WWII. cease fire means cease firing immediately. slow is blatantly ignoring it. and i don't hate Russia...i hate their current actions...i actually loved Russia until this deal with Georgia and the threats against Poland. i have lost alot of respect for a government that i up until now thought was doing a good job at advancing the quality of life for its citizens and advancing the country as a whole. @ belfastuniguy eh...i love the UK, i won't say it's superior, although it is a great country and we share history. lol.
  5. The US's most pathetic highways

@hamstertk: yeah...it's almost freeway/interstate standard all the way from CS to Houston...but yeah the stretch through hearn and calvert needs to be bypassed. my dad and i were talking as we drove back 2 days ago from moving my sis into her new apt, and we were like yeah calvert and hearn fund their police force through the speeding tickets they write, and they exist solely to write tickets. it's kind of redundant. kind of like working only to send your child to daycare....pointless really.
  6. Russia may invade Poland

@fuduka: yellow cake uranium: worldbook encyclopedia 2008 edition. 500 tons: AP news. size of the atomic bomb: worldbook encyclopedia 2008 edition. math: 500 tons = 500,000 pounds. 500,000 pounds divided by 138 pounds is between 3,600 and 3,700.
  7. SC4D v 1.1.640.0 - What did I do wrong?

.640 is the last release for the US version of the game. .642 is probably France or Germany or something...
  8. The Official Second Amendment / Gun Ban Thread

man i love Texas...i don't have to worry here about being charged for shooting something if they're robbing me...
  9. Do Ports Upgrade

i thought you had to have a mod to make the seaports upgrade.
  10. you simply seem to be hitting the wall for the game. basically your computer is likely not fast enough for the game's engine to process all the traffic you have efficiently. the only thing i can suggest is more subway lines, road top mass transit, and possibly upgrading the RAM on your computer.
  11. a few quick questions

    1. have you tried buying from your current city while in the other city? 2. high density usually requires a population in excess of 150k in order to grow the high density buildings. before that you are likely to only get medium and low density buildings on the lot. also you might try zoning low first and when it fills up, zone over it with medium and when that has all re-developed, rezone on top of the old zone with high density 3. it becomes congested and slows down your commute time. (RL example is the Lexington Avenue Subway lines in NYC [the 4,5, and 6 trains/dark green lines]. the line is ridiculously overcrowded [which is why they are currently constructing the new T train under Second Avenue]. as a result of the overcrowding, the trains get delayed leaving the station because so many people are packing on. that is where an overused station hurts you). i have been experimenting with express lines on rail, el-rail, and subway, and so far, it seems that the sims will use those lines like they are intended.
  12. Russia may invade Poland

SimHoTToDDy: i didn't say they were...i was merely pointing out that Iraq denied having the stuff and Iran isn't afraid to let the world know. With the amount found in Iraq and them denying, i was simply pointing out that it would be conceivable that Iran might have more thus making the US base in Poland very much a necessity given the current political situation between Iran and us.
  13. The US's most pathetic highways

@hamstertk: many a times...they didn't do a whole lot to upgrade US 87 to I-27. a few bypasses were built and other than that not much happened. try Loop 288 in Lubbock. it is finally getting a makeover from some of it's initial construction. and that's only cuz Lubbock has gotten additional funding from TXDOT for the Marsha Sharp Freeway and the new TXSPUR 327 upgrade to freeway specifications as well as the first stages of FM 1585's upgrade to freeway status. If we're talking about ust state highways, TX 6 from Waco to Houston is being upgraded, but is still a horrible mess...especially on game days in College Station. US 77 in South Texas is pretty rough although it is slated for a major upgrade when I-69 is extended down into Texas and on to Mexico. The worst in Texas thought would probably have to be I-35 (including I-35E through Dallas and I-35W through Fort Worth) though I-45 through Houston is pretty rough. In Austin, I-35 is always a mess and there is no room to expand it (it's at 2 levels, one express level and one local level) so traffic just continues to get worse. in Dallas, the mixmaster interchange of I-35E with I-30 creates a horrible mess as well.
  14. Russia may invade Poland

well iraq was found to have 500 tons of yellow cake uranium (enough to make roughly 3500 bombs stronger than the ones the US dropped on Japan in WWII). a form of uranium that is used in nuclear weapons and reactors...and that was from a country claiming not to have that stuff...and Iraq doesn't need that much uranium...especially for a country with only 1 operational nuclear power plant and the second is still under construction. so that all said, i think the missile defense base in Poland is not a stretch or an over-reaction.
  15. The US's most pathetic highways

Originally posted by: Duke87 I've been on the Schuylkill Expressway before. Not behind the wheel, but I've been on it. It is quite unbecoming of an interstate, certainly. Though, some rather exceptional situations were encountered in its construction and it the state built what they could. I still think it's amusing that the engineer who designed it can be quoted as having said "If you don't like it, don't drive it", however. More on this highway can be read about here. New York also has its fair share of narrow, windy, old, and treacherous highways. But with the exception of the BQE (which is a nightmare not only for its confined design but also for the same traffic problems that plague the Cross Bronx), none of them are interstates. The FDR Drive isn't signed as anything, although it is a state highway, Route 907L Its northern continuation, the Harlem River Drive, is route 907P). The Henry Hudson Parkay is state route 9A. The Cross Island Parkway/Laurelton Parkway/Belt Parkway/Shore Parkway conglomeration is another series of unsigned state routes (907A, 907B, 907C, and 907D, respectively). All of them have one thing in common: they're older highways which weren't built to modern design standards. New York's other interstates such as the Cross Bronx, the Major Deegan, and the Van Wyck may have varying degrees of traffic problems, but in terms of limited design capacity and narrownness, they aren't that bad. Hell, the northern portions of the Van Wyck are pretty wide and spacy. The part up by Shea stadium has been/is being redone and looking at it now you;d never guess that that was once just a mere parkway. I mean, look at this: That's the Van Wyck. Now look at this: That's the BQE. If you're wondering where the traffic going the other direction is, the answer is that it's underneath the traffic in this picture. Along the brooklyn promenade the highway was built essentially into the side of a cliff and in grand total builds up to a four level wall. The bottom level, on the ground, is Furman Street (a local street). The second level is southbound/"westbound" BQE traffic. The third level is northbound/"eastbound" BQUE traffic. And finally, the top level is a pedestrian promenade overlooking the waterfront (and lower Manhattan) connected to the streets east of the highway.quote> @ duke87: i'm with you. i hate driving the BQE...even at 3 AM with no one on it! luckily i drive a vehicle that can go on the parkways. saves me alot of stress. The LIE within NYC can be an absolute headache. It needs to have more access to the city and perhaps just a straight bypass directly under Manhattan. that would be nice. prolly relieve some of the congestion too.
  16. Show us your airport!

@feliwi where did you get that small terminal building? it's beautiful and is exactly what i've been looking for for a caribbean airport.
  17. Simulator Antics

@framling: a new Simulator option is in the works over at SC4 devotion that should do that for you.
  18. NAM: Requests

@bob56: it has been fixed somewhat...it's called draggable GLR. @streetlight725: that is possible, but will never happen. the amound of puzzle pieces required is far too great as the depth of water can vary so much. plus there is no way to get every piece perfect so it would look pretty crappy. not a bad idea if there was very few possible water depths as SC2K had. @ninjajoe: highly unlikely as tunnels are hardcoded into the .exe and we don't have access to that. there was once an attempt but it either died out or failed.
  19. Some Questions From a Newer Player

    1. it depends on your preference. i always go into debt when starting a city, but always end up positive very quickly because of the way i play. I tend to support the cost of building transportation networks with tolls and lots of mass transit usage. 2. it depends again on your style and region. my style and regions rarely have farmland as they tend to be large metropolis areas. 3. yes. Ground Light Rail (or GLR) is simply elevated rail that has been dropped to ground level. you can transition between GLR, el-rail, and subway with ease. there is also an elevated standard or heavy rail network that is simply a raised heavy rail network. transitions are available as well. 4. the only modds i use are the NAM, the side street modd, the street cul-du-sacs modd, the CAM, and a water mod. i have plenty of custom buildings that i have downloaded though. 5. i got most of my ideas from real life cities, and the omnibus. it's kind of a mix of them all. 6. bound in a locked cell guarded by EA's tight wallet. lol.
  20. Show us your airport!

@ ryannayr140: not bad...your ability to handle large volumes of planes is greatly hindered by the long taxiways and the limited number of them.
  21. Show us your airport!

@ ryannayr140: looks good. there are smaller airplanes available (CRJ200 - CRJ700) , search for the other half of the pack you seem to already have. also, please keep your pics 800x600 or less...its a pain to load when i don't have my high speed internet.
  22. High Speed Rail Project

this mod isn't designed for the inner-city/downtown core. it is a long range mod. we're talking one station (2 if both are at the edges) of a small city tile max.
  23. Game Crashes.

i believe your problem is that laptops tend to require more RAM to run programs due to the graphics card monopolizing the RAM...though you should still have enough RAM with absolutely nothing else running...
  24. NAM: Requests

@wilson124: highly unlikely... @skater_jack2008: should be possible...make sure to suggest it at SC4devotion as that's where the nam team tends to lurk...i like the idea alot @io_bg: yes it is possible...however it likely will be a long while until they are made (if ever) as the person who first discovered it is not around anymore to my knowledge...
  25. the asian buildings are in the euro building set...
