  1. Show us your - Largest City Ever

I've been growing my city a little more and the little more growing led to this giant behemoth. At 11 million people it really is quite overloaded, the streets are at standstills while the subways and express subways (surprisingly useful tactic) are constantly full. I have a regional rail system in place to help ferry people to the city center from the outlying suburbs (meaning the other chunks of this city, it covers 4 large tiles and a couple of medium ones) that is also quite utilized. My region population is somewhere around 33 million, this city leading the pack in population. I have subway stations with 600k or so people traversing them, park and ride lots throughout the city all of which see extreme usage. A ferry system is also in place to help alleviate traffic on the bridges and rails going out/in of the city. I need 4 custom nuclear reactors to power just this city which each churn out about 140k MWe of energy, I need silly amounts of water, schools, police, and fire buildings in order to provide for the city. At any given time I can summon 202 police cars and 134 fire trucks, so I've pretty much stopped crime and fires, thank god. I'll take some more pretty pictures soon.

You have to get the CAM, which includes grow-able buildings that helps relieve your population caps. then you need the Census Repository Facility to help you keep tabs on regional demand, citywide demand, unemployment (saves you time trying to figure out where you need improvement), and the Radical Ordinance, because it would be damn near impossible to do this without it (all the hospitals and stations and schools you'd need would just make it totally unreasonable). Finally, SUBWAYS ARE YOUR FRIEND, they ferry people around using less space, and when used in conjunction with a good bus network, the whole public transit scheme can surpass every other network. Adding roadtop mass transit can also help keep space usage to a minimum. Then again I'm also playing on a computer with 6 gigs of ram, so cities like this may totally kill other machines. Anyway, right now my population is tantalizingly close to being stable at 7.7 million, it keeps swinging as low as 7.650 million and as high as 7.850 million.

Well, My largest city would have to be Cyrano at 6.6 Million all on 1 Large Tile (I cheated of course). The traffic is silly, the density is just hilarious (in some places its just solid skyscrapers), and the requirements on power and water are just as unrealistically high. I spent some time making this city look nice (all the seawalls and trim work around the coasts) but I'm still lacking on infrastructure in the form of highways, subways and railways I planed for in advance. The whole region surrounding it has about 12 million sims, with about 11 million situated on just 4 large tiles, and 2 medium ones. Needless to say, all zoned high density. The pictures below should give you some idea as to the sheer largeness of the city. Edit: I just looked at one of my subway stations... Edit 2: After Screwing around for a while (land reclamation and zone cleaning) I got the population to 7,150,000 sims on 1 large tile.

GAH This took to long The subway provides service to 3 large tiles and 2 medium tiles with a total combined population of about 9.2 million or so. I'm still working on the image, hence the 'nothing at all in the background', but eventually I'll get something there. The great thing about this subway is that it seems to take in 3 million passengers a day or so, so it helps take traffic off the roads. Which are filled with about 4 million bus trips a day. Some of my stations are at about 600% capacity even with the NAM, yay overcrowding ! PS I could use some station names if people want to just throw ones at me, all of them would probably stick.
  6. ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer

Because the smell is nauseating. In case of emergency, where are the flotation devices located ?
  7. ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer

I'll take three, their cheap. If its raining on a Tuesday in Sydney, Australia, can you cook your whole breakfast just by ironing it ?
  8. your worst city ever.

My worst city would have to be Hellvue. I tried to make a place where I could combine all of my power providers into one Medium Tile. I did just that and began to export the power, but as the demand grew, so did the need for more power stations. I ended up with quite a few, so I thought, what the hell ? Why not just pump this thing full of pollution. So I did, then I filled up whatever was left with heavy industrial and jails. There were docks and a fairly massive rail system to transport almost every resident out for the work day. The population is around 39,000 Sims at any given time with an education level of around 10, health of 0, and life span of 50. Air pollution sits at a comfy 46-4700 while crime is high and commute times a pain in the ass. I'm 2 bars away from being totally in red on mayor rating. Riots, grime, the works. Fun isn't it ? http://img207.imageshack.us/my.php?image=helvuejan24871188693141yo9.png
  9. Show us your city, road or transit maps!

I decided that since I'm done with my region I should upload a completed map. This is the full MetroRAIL map I made for my region. It contains all 20 lines & fare structuring system. This is probably the last one for this area unless I magically aquire, learn, and find the time to do one of these in photoshop.
  10. Show us your city, road or transit maps!

Everyones maps look so good. I don't have photoshop or anything but I still took a crack at it with MS Paint and a screen shot of my region. The region you see encompasses something around 11 million or 12 million Sims. And about 2-3 million of them take the train every day (both Commuter rail and High Speed Rail) to get to work and back. My largest station is Metropolis, for which I use Ill Tonkso's Brenntia St Georges station, which is frequently at or over its 200,000 capacity. I have maxed out capacity on 3 of my lines (the #1,4,11).
  11. Roads

Same thing happened to me when I installed the NAM. I uninstalled the old, put in the new and forgot to include Turning Lanes on the options. Try Re-Installing NAM with the turning lanes option on, thats what did it for me.
  12. High Speed Rail Project

He hasn't said anything in quite some time, so I'm almost assuming he may have given up on the piece. If someone would have the time I would be ever so grateful for one.
  13. High Speed Rail Project

I do have a question, I have a region with around 14 million Sims using the HSRP as a sort of commuter rail system and want to hook it up to a more traditional heavy rail system. I was wondering how (if any) the HSR to Heavy Rail conversion is going, or if there is one available. I have scoured this thread up and down countless times, only to come up with a few photos, and a tutorial that confuses me as to how it works. I have even given it a try to no avail. Any sort of help would be appreciated.
