I just installed the deluxe version for few days ago and is a beginner to this game. I have only build small citys until now just to learn and study how things work. Already now I am stunned with this game but have here my first question. Is there no other way to increase the population in a city than expanding by building new residentials and houseing (zoning) ? I have tried to build a small city with only about 3500 citizen and then let it run for about 30-40 years only supplying with the needs like energy, water, roads, scools, etc but no new zoning. The citizen then only grow older and older and no new citizen is being born. Shouldn't there be born new childrens to later refill the schools and so on ? I think this would be the most logical in this simulation. Is there maybe a mod for this ? I have been searching in the forum for this problem but could not find anything about this.

Thank you Baro. This kind of answer was just what I was looking for. Because now when I know and understand this basic game subject I am also able to have more control of this game. In a way I guess that a natural population grow would have been to complex for this game simulation. But who knows maybe in the new SC5. Maybe some could construct a simple MOD to stop sims from ageing. Then you could have a small city were development is status quo but also where other simulation aspects is continuously running. This could be used as a kind of sandbox mode for test purpose. ( just an idea ) Thanks.

Thank you for your answers. Yes, I see you got a point there rodent1989. Of course if the children grow up and they don't have a place to settle they won't be able to reproduce and get kids of there own. They properly won't live at the same place as there parents for long. So you must rezone to get more houses. All this make sense. (my average resident age statistic is total dark blue after 83 years and only one or two kids in the elementary school) But soon or later there must be some of the old houses free for new familys to move in, when the old sims die. (maybe sims can't die) So maybe the population at least should be kept on same level when you don't rezone. And there new kids should start at school and so on. (I guess this subject might becoming to philosophic now) Please let me hear your thoughts about this and correct me if I am all wrong. Thanks.

Tank you for responding. Ok, so at least there is hope that I am able to make me understandably in English. ( I admit that foreign languages has never become easy to me ) And I like to build small cities until I know more about the fundamentals for then later to rezone and build bigger cities. Also I think it is a important thing to know that the citizens are not able to reproduce itself. I have not found anything about this subject before in any docs or forums. Who knows maybe in the next SC5. Thanks.

Thanks for your answer. Yes, I think you are right. So my first thought that the only way to increase the population in a city is to zone more for building new residentials. I just think it would have been more locical that the existing citizens was able to expanding the population. And yes I know that I forgot the "S" at the end of "citizen" in the topic. Sorry. My english is not to good but I think I prefer to use the "citizens" instead of "Population" I think the word "population" maybe approach more to a entirely country. Isn't that right ?

Thanks for answering. I tested it and tried to let it run for 83 years and my citizen still get older (boy they are old) and no young citizens is joining. From year 40 and forward to year 83 I only have 1-2 students at the elementary school compare to about 120 students at year 5. And no cycles shows up with periods of new young students or citizens. I also have good health statistic and low pollution statistics and so on. Am I doing something wrong in this test ? I really don't get it.

Thank you for the answer. It is interesting that you do not have this problem. I thought it maybe was a normal issue for this game because I on purpose did not rezone. I am using the last update (638) and everything else in the program seems to work fine so I do not think it is a program fault. Also when I look into the different statistics all things looks nice except the "resident average age". And even the "education" level shows niece but the "education by age" is moving to the older part of the scale. And the amount of students is falling in the schools. The total amount of citizens is also slow falling. Can these new information maybe give some clue ? Thanks!
