2x4 has a couple of residential high rise under it. And I also downloaded some BAT that's this size. The demands are skyrocketing. I also tried 4x4 and it didn't work. It seem that the region thing just don't work for me no more. and 100k albeit not much is enough for residential high rise.

I've heard that growth stage is dependent on the capacity of the whole region, not a single city. So I started a town, got to 100K population, and went to a neighboring tile and started to zoom 2x4 high density residential. I was hoping that since only high-rise can grow on those 2x4 I would get them as my regional capacity for R is well above the 26K for poor stage 7 and 8 buildings to grow. Electricity, water, connections and connections with the region and neighbor city all provided. And I put on cheetah speed and nothing happened, nothing grew. I started some other mid density zoning and in the beginning only houses would grow. it's only when i got 3K sim did I have some modest size apartments. Why is this happening? Since everything I read about the game told me that stage has to do with REGIONAL capacity instead of city capacity, but everything I learn in the game is just to the contrary. Or is it a glitch that just happened to be on my computer? It would be awesome if it indeed were dependent on the regional capacity so I no longer need to play on larger tiles to get skyscrapers. But it's just apparently not the case.

I'm a complete newbie to modding and has relied on the modders big time to have fun with my games. Grateful. But now I feel like one more thing should be addressed: desirability. We've all witnessed $$$mansions spawning all over the city like green patches over the poor, and it's like they find having neighbors with poor people is desirable. No offense but that really isn't true in real life, people have neighborhoods of similar incomes, but that has been lacking in the game. Is there any way to make those guy reside in the same area? like making parks or monuments close by perequisite for their development? That way my city will look lot more organized. Thanx!

This has been haunting me since the inception of the game. Usually I start by zoning low densities and wide before I squalor up. And in the mean while some enormous mansion pops up taking almost entire blocks. Some took 20 slots. While in the low densities they are okay given what they are worth they become an enormous headache when you advance to medium densities. While the lower and medium income people let go of their houses in order to build apartments, those huge green yards would stay idly surrounded by already risen landscape. Even if you demolished them they wouldn't build because they have modified the slots and rezone is the only option. This is hilarious and I had to rise tax rate to 20% so richies stay out of my city before the core of my city is built and they can do whatever they want with their money without bothering the city landscape. Is there a solution? like a mod or something because this is really getting annoying.

In fact, it's just because you live in the west. Forget about media influence, no media stationed in U.S. would constantly report Beijing or Bangalore like they would on NY or D.C., and you don't watch CCTV or NHK.

You are getting the "Access Violated" crash that happened to me few days ago when I tried to play another ancient game in Axis and Allies. You are getting it because the game is grabbing memory that the CPU felt it shouldn't have. to avoid the problem, right click "My Computer" go to "Advanced System Settings" choose "Advanced" on the top bar， select "Settings" Under the Performance section and then go to Data Execution Protection. Then add "Simcity 4" to the list of programs (there should be none) exempt from the DEP. That should solve the problem. Good Luck!

Yep I'm in Beijing, China NOW. the pollution are surprisingly bad compare to the place that I used to live (Peoria). Blue sky appears only after rain (which don't happen that often) and people are trapped in the hot, wet, particulately air in the city. I may want to come back to Peoria if only for a breath. HOOO HOOO HOOO!

I have no problem with playing simcity on Vista. It doesn't need a disc for me and I downloaded several mod to makes game more fun. I have experienced such problem by downloading a bunch of mod. After you delete the ones that cause trouble everything works fine. ONE problem about the game on my computer is when you zoom in too much (2nd level) it blacks out and than return with everything turns in to lines, but i usually play on one level and it seems just fine.
