would you be willing to spend $200 on a future COMPLETE Simcity?
shorty2 replied to elektrichead22's topic in Gaming Talk
$200? Did you just pull that number out of your, hat? There's so much you could do with that amount of cash, why would you waste it all on a single game! -
Rock, Paper, Shotgun lashes out at EA and simcity.
shorty2 replied to Djohaal's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
+infinity people should have boycotted this game as soon as they mentioned the online DRM. if we allow corporations to do stupid things, then they will do stupid things.. like, lease us the game instead of allowing us to actually own it. the younger generation doesn't really understand the situation so well, which is why it is important for the older folk to kick up a big fuss about it all. i think a lot of people willingly overlook the issue with online-DRM because they simply do not care and would just rather have a game to play to feed their gaming addiction. -
10 things that need to be fixed in this game because it's dumb.
shorty2 replied to NaughtyWord's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I've made this point in another thread, because I get the feeling they don't half the time. There's been numerous games with such appauling errors in them that you can not help think that either they didn't test it, or the people who tested it just didn't care/or were told not to care if they found a problem. -
I think most people understand that this is primarily the fault of EA and not of Maxis, so I think there is room for a better version to be released in a few years. The guys at Maxis just need to make it clear to EA, right now, that this is what happens when you make the money and anti-piracy component more important than the actual game itself. They need to grow some balls and just make it clear.. "listen you suit wearing potato gamer CEO, we can make an awesome game, that will make a profit too.. but not if you're squeezing our nuts with your iron fist of corporate nonsense!". If they polished the game and spent more time refining things they could produce an absolutely stunning game. But they need to nail the gameplay first and foremost. If it takes twice as long to develop, so be it. If you make a game that has amazing gameplay people will buy it and play it for years to come. It works out better in the long run. Instead EA is only interested in reaping short term profits.. they are why corporations suck.. stupid CEO's and suit wearing idiots who don't know the first thing about the industry they're involved in.. just interested in turning profits in any way possible. Perhaps they should wait a few more years now so that "dad's PC" has at least 8gb of RAM and a top notch graphics card anyway.. it would give them time to make an awesome game instead of a half baked product.

City Size Too Small? I have a challenge for you:
shorty2 replied to kgpurrs's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I think those who believe the current iteration represents anything near to a city simulator need to go study GCSE geography, or the equivalent in your country, and learn what a city actually is.. because it isn't just the massive dense skyscrapers in the centre of a major city (the central-business-district). Following images taken from: http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/gcsebitesize/geography/urban_environments/urban_models_medcs_rev1.shtml Those are two models/theories of a city layout. Obviously not every city looks like either of those, but it's a rough guide. And of course further out, on the "urban fringe", you start getting into more open countryside with farm land etc. In London, my home city, we have the "green belt" that surrounds greater London, which is a kind of no-build zone, least it's very difficult to get planning permission. And then further out you get into countryside proper with small villages and farming land. The city doesn't have a clear cut border, so even those graphics above are misleading. All cities begin to fray and bleed out into the surrounding countryside. SimCity 4 allowed you to emulate that by having tiles placed adjacent to each other, but in SimCity 2013 it is impossible to do that because you have no access to that land. -
Hopefully the anger will be directed towards EA and not Maxis, which seems generally to be the case at the moment. You know the peeps at Maxis would probably love to put out a wicked game but they're being ball strangled by the iron fist of EA.

We waited 10 years for this?
shorty2 replied to mastorofpuppetz's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Agreed. At least CitiesXL allowed us to place multiple "intercities". lol. Forum thread from the official simcity site on this very issue: http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/posts/list/9344370.page -
Amazon.com suspends SimCity sales pending EA server problems.

Good. I hope this whole thing backfires on EA and it puts another nail in their coffin. It's a shame they'll probably drag Maxis down with them. -
The more I play this game, the less fun and more frustrating it gets
shorty2 replied to MallowTheCloud's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I was watching a live stream yesterday and the guy experienced the sewage problem you described. He managed to get his residents back though because he had a lot of cash.. but only just! After placing another sewage plant, and basically experimenting with turning them on/off, he managed to get the whole thing resolved. If he hadn't saved the cash he wouldn't have been able to afford the plant and he would probably have lost the city. Saying all this stuff will be patched is fine, BUT.. it makes you wonder whether they actually tested the game before releasing. It's not the first time I've thought that about a game, one of the FIFA football games also got me thinking like that. Just some ridiculous errors that would have surely been spotted if the game was tested properly. -
The Reviews on Amazon.com are trickling in...

If I had just spent $60 on a game and I was unable to play it because the serves weren't operational I'd be pissed off too. "just mad" is insulting. they have every right to be mad! EA insists on online-DRM, fine, if they want to play that game then they have to make the game playable, which currently it isn't. stop. making. excuses. -

The 5* amazon review that popped up first was this one. I lol'd. "You'd think I'd be mega unhappy like everyone else at the constant waiting and lack of actually being able to play a game I purchased. Well, you'd be wrong. The hours upon hours since launch that I haven't been able to log in, whether it be sitting in queues, or server busy messages, or just plain old not working screens, I've managed to do a heap of things that I never do when I'm locked in my man cave playing video games. I've washed the dishes, the laundry, changed the oil in the car, mopped the floors, dusted, did a spot of gardening, greeted my children who I hadn't really seen since Christmas, walked the dog, asked how my wife's day has been and listened to the entire response, restocked the groceries and many more things! My family has never been happier that they've got a father and husband again. In fact, I feel like Simcity has given me a new lease on life. This wouldn't have been possible without the seemingly crazy decision to have constant online connections and server side save points even for single player. So I can only thank EA and Maxis. Your failures have been my rewards. 5 stars!" -
They could have just spent a bit more time on polishing the game and making something that was more complete, but instead they wasted loads of money on marketing what they had thus far. The way the game looks.. if they had polished the rest of the game this could easily be one of the top ranking PC games in a long time, but instead they rushed it. No doubt because of EA.. I'm sure the Maxis guys would have loved to polish the game further but were restricted by EA's iron fist.

That pretty much sums up Britain as it is. What more could they offer? *giggle*
-
*sigh* it looks really nice. if there wasn't so many problems with the game, and you could build larger tiles, i think people could produce f-ing amazing looking screenshots. imagine all that background space used with more buildings and farm zones.. it would look incredible!

This is utter heartbreaking.
shorty2 replied to Trekker4747's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
And you trust their word on that? And even if it is true, that is a pathetic excuse to dish out. They had ample time and money to prepare for the launch, there are no excuses. I really do not understand people who are trying to smooth things over with assumptions on behalf of EA.. WHY?! You owe them nothing. People who paid for a game on the other hand, they are owed a game they can actually play. This isn't kindergarden and wait your turn.. people paid money for a product and they're not getting what they paid for, they have every right to be really miffed.
