Votes so far! Mild - 5 Moderate - 2 Extreme - 1 There's still plenty of time so by all means if you have a vote change you may do so, or if you'd like to leave a vote by all means it will be accepted... Also - I'm now generating ideas for the city itself... It will be located off of a Southern Gulf on a slab of land just barely south of a range of mountains... I'm going to edit this message later to attach a photo of the region as it stands in its Alpha version and any ideas for correction would be eagerly accepted... Now to the history... Cities don't just appear out of nowere for no reason, they exist because they're apart of an economic trade system but each city has it's own special trade and this city will be like any other... It must develope a reason whether it served as a convinient major Seaport to distribute goods throughout the country, or to be found as a manufactoring harbor serving cheap labor and an easy work force, or to be founded in present date as oil companies desperate pleas to search for oil led them to find oil in the mountains... Any other ideas will be accepted aswell... give me some oppinoions! -

Originally posted by: PhatHead If you were to do the extreme how would you keep the region current ie would the other "mayor's" email you their city file like once a week or something just wonderingquote> Well the idea was that we would create an Instant messaging system via Yahoo / Aim / or MSN and from there we would create a weekly deadline in which everyone will submit their parcels to everyone... this way EVERYONE will have the most up to date version of everyone's city each week so the traffic simulator / RCI demand will be up to date and I will post the most up to date region in the journal... However there's absolutely no problem with updating on each members CITY before the deadline as a "side CJ" as it's relative to the main one. The main and largest one containing all the members city tiles will however be collected by all me or a vice president, put together in the region puzzle, a CJ will be compiled and posted by the weekly deadline... If for any reason a member can't send his city tile by the deadline then he / she should notify me in advanced and send me or any member his city before the deadline. Perhaps we'll use a file sharing space to accomidate this... A member could then just upload his city on the file sharing space whenever he/she updates it and it can be retrieved by other members for the most up to date RCI Values / Traffic... -

The Highway On and Exit ramps in both NAM and SC4 are rather... unrealstic. No traffic lights at the end of the offramp / intersection with the road, You can't make single ramps, where as in Atlanta and on Toll Roads there are several ramps that have no return access but you cannot do this in SC4 as you have to plop down an entire junction, and also both ramps are too short to be Interstate Grade... The NAM's Single Highway Ramp to Oneway road Exit / Entrance gives you some more versatality but it looks very unrealistic unless you're merging them into a frontage road because the ramp MERGES into an exsisting road rather than BECOMING the road... I believe a single puzzle peace would allow FAR smoother / better / realistic freeway junctions... I'm requesting and offramp and onramp piece like this... Red = Connection between Ramp / Oneway Grey = Highway Black = Oneway That would make Interchanges like this more realistic and versatile... and also I'd like to request a cloverleaf exit / entrance for a Highway to Avenue and Avenue to Avenue as many Avenue's in Atlanta do have freeway style junctions without becoming an actual freeway...

Requesting Highway On/Offramp Piece's

What is the likely hood of this piece in particular showing up for the ground highway in the next Rural Highway upgrade? -
Requesting Highway On/Offramp Piece's
Need4Camaro replied to Need4Camaro's topic in NAM & Transit Networks
Warrior, there is a piece that only MERGES into the oneway road, as in there's a spot of the oneway road thats BEHIND the actual ramp and it looks very unrealistic... and I'm not talking about traffic lights on the HIGHWAY, I'm talking about traffic lights on the RAMP / Road intersection, which are very necessary in urban congested interesections... infact in Atlanta you'll have to be ATLEAST 50 miles from downtown before you start seeing stopsigns at the intersection of highway exit ramps and roads... DFire... I do understand that many highways have very short ramps however if you look at newer interstates or even freeways in general, ramps are becoming very long and smooth to allow better traffic flow between the exit and street... and in the country where there's higher speed limits and more space, the ramps are VERY long... or atleast in GA -
As for the two way frontage road, I-20 has them on the east side of Atlanta, after you pass I-285 there are two way frontage roads that parrallel I-20 for about 30 miles... There was one case on Wesley Chapel RD, the last exit before I-285 that the westbound exit ramp merged right into the two way frontage road... It was very tricky and accident prone aswell... a horribaly setup junction as people on the frontage road could wait hours before getting an opportunity to go (freeway exiting traffic always had the right of way.) It was actually just recently remodelled late last year, early this year where Wesley Chapel RD was widened (4 lanes each way plus dual turning lanes.) and the two lane front road ramp was removed (thank god) and the frontage road was redirected as an all new ramp was placed to service wesley chapel... I-85, North of I-285 in North of Atlanta also has two way frontage roads, however again, the ramps don't merge into the frontage roads, only the actual exits as the roads move aside to allow this... I-85 South of I-285 in North Atlanta has Oneway Frontage Roads in which the ramps convniently merge into them right before the exits, and even has round abouts that allow you to turn around without even facing a traffic light... GA 141 Peachtree Industrial Blvd has an EXCELLENT frontage road system, strategically set up so perfectly that this freeway NEVER backs up even during rushhour!... (until it's freeway portion comes to an end at it's first trafficlight) It only has three lanes going each way... So to me thats proof, it's not how many lanes you have, it's how the highway is set up... Only downfall about GA 141 is it's freeway portion is rather shortlived... probably 5 - 6 miles at best however it does cross very congested streets and never seems to backup when crossing them... GA 141 would be an excellent alternate to Atlanta's 16 lane massacre - I-85 if it's freeway portion were longer...

Commuters traveling the wrong way to work...
Need4Camaro posted a topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Okay basically... I have a CBD and an Island... ... The island being to the east and the CBD to the west... ..Island is full of residents and mild commerce... .CBD is mostly downtown, both are connected by a long freeway / bridge... For the first three city tiles on the island, sims commuted to the CBD just fine, the highways traffic escalated to around 40K commuters per day one way... then I biult another mostly residential city tile to the east with a light commercial shopping district just for realisms sake... and suddenly the traffic on the freeway going to Downtown plummeted by 20K commuters!!! I investigated to find that now half of the traffic was now traveling EASTBOUND, AWAY from downtown... There's nowere near enough jobs in my most eastern city on the island to support that traffic... ...they go there, then commute north into another city tile, then west, then south and back where they came from and loop around again causing a loop of infinite traffic!!! What can I do to stop this and get them to go to Downtown??? -
I'd like to request a Ground Highway ramp that connects to a oneway road in the same direction as the ramp however without the oneway ramp coming from behind the ramp this way it looks more realistic... Also so the ramp connects directly into the oneway road instead of merging into the oneway road... Also I'd like to request an Avenue to Avenue interchange like the Avenue to Road interchange / Exit...

Commuters traveling the wrong way to work...

Okay basically this... I have an island and to the west of this island is Downtown (CBD) and the island and the CBD is connected via a rather long freeway and bridge... ...When I was developing the island, at first everything was going fine... I had developed two tiles outward and all sims used the freeway going westbound to get to work - 40 - 50K sims on the freeway but then, I developed another mostly residential and light commercial town to the most eastern point of the island on another city tile - suddenly the sims that were going to downtown plumetted to only 20K commuters, and the rest of them started traveling east bound all to no avail because there's nowere near enough jobs to support them, so traffic begins to loop, they get off an exit, head north into another city tile, then go west into another city tile, and back south again back into the same tile they originated from... ..What on earth? Why won't they go to work? How can I fix this problem? -

Originally posted by: homeandaway this is the wrong thread to post this in, i think that this will be moved by a moderator soon, but - to sort the problem - its probably because the bridge is to long, and is there an exit via to downtown??~alex~ Moving to General Discussion - MMquote> There is indeed an exit for downtown - um, Sorry I just realized this thread was double posted... How would the bridges length have any affliation onto which they they commute? -

I've got an industrial / residential sector carrying quite a few Nuclear Plants however, It's costing one of my neighbor cities more to purchase power than they gain in income... Almost by $1K and everytime the gap closes, the city needs more power... It's a bit fustrating. The city that's feeding from it is basically Dense Industrial / Light, Medium Residential... The supplier city has like 4 - 5 Nuclear Plants to support all of it's neighbors... and is also losing income now aswell... ... Maybe if I upgrade all my Industries to Hi Tech and go for Hydrogen things would be better?

Travels Down I-85: A CJ of the North Carolina Piedmont
Need4Camaro replied to pickled_pig's topic in SC4 City Journals
Beautiful, I have traveled U.S. 17 In Georgia, it crosses the Savanah River shortly after I-16 meets its end in Downtown Savanah... Were there plans to convert that bridge into I-16 into South Carolina? Would make a nice freeway / shortcut to Hilton Head island... -
