The scope of this thread has been expanded to include all bugs that seem to be exclusive to the Mac version of SC4. This includes the traffic capacity bug that plagues many train stations. For anyone who still needs it, here is the original first post. I have an Intel Mac that runs Windows through Boot Camp, and it recently occured to me that I could do what GoaSkin did to get BAT nightlights to work on the Mac version of the game. If I get permission, some of them might even make it to the STEX. My question to you is what buildings should I do? I'm going to do mostly RCI growables, and maybe some landmarks. I probably won't be doing any skyscrapers because they are too time consuming to "fix." GoaSkin has already released two Mac Packs to the STEX (Linky), so don't request any buildings already there. quote>

Unfortunately for us, nearly all of the custom content creation tools, released either by Maxis, or the community, were released exclusively for PC.

sounds like you don't have the model file installed, which likely means that the model was part of a separate download. check the readme or STEX description to see if they give any links to dependency files which might contain the model.

hmm. I had that thread bookmarked, but the link isn't working for me either. I'll do some digging in the archived thread forum, see if I can find anything. EDIT: Hmm, couldn't find anything. Seems like the thread may have been lost in the transition to 6.0. I'll ask around, see what I can find out.

I'd go with what TEG said. Reinstall the game, without installing the UB update. The Universal Binary "update" released by Aspyr caused some similar sounding problems when I installed it on my Intel iMac. And if you have a PPC mac, there really isn't a point to having the UB update. If that doesn't work (or you weren't updated to UB in the first place), then it's possible you have an outdated version of the HSRP. Are you using the old total replacement for monorail, or the newer one that also lets you use monorail, and Ground HSR? Because the older one might be causing conflicts with a newer version of the NAM.

Since this is an issue with an installation of the Windows version of the game, running on Windows, I'm moving this back to the regular Bugs&Technical Issues forum.

There's no need to keep the files that you aren't using (unless of course, you change your mind, but you can just redownload in that case). You also might want to check to make sure that you don't have multiple automata plugins installed, though I don't think this would as drastically affect the game. And I can see I'm a little late on this (), but welcome to Simtropolis!

I mean, good luck and stuff if you actually try this, but I seriously doubt that it will go anywhere. I mean, it's a computer game. It's not like Aspyr was legally obligated to support it after they released it. And isn't there more important stuff going on right now?

That's how I found the patches.quote> This doesn't make sense. As far as I know, and have researched, there is some work that needs to be done on each individual building. That's time consuming. quote> Well I don't know what else to tell ya, that wasn't the deal with me though. When I downloaded the 2 patches, it worked for every building all at once. I didn't have to work on or do anything to any building. quote> that's because you're playing the PC version, on Windows. Aspyr never released nightlighting patches for the Mac version

"beginning region," meaning just a bunch of completely flat cities?. That's normal. You need to have the game render the region, by following the steps in the Omnibus article I linked earlier.

The ST 6.0 Department of Technical Affairs

I'm seeing a minor visual hiccup. In the profile badge thingy at the top of page, the link to the Dashboard is a line below where it looks like it should be (on the Mac versions of Firefox and Safari). -
Were the maps made using SC4 Terraformer, or are they greyscale images. If it's the first one, you're out of luck, there is no way to turn the Terraformer files into a SC4 region without Windows. If it's the second one, then this Omnibus article has the information you need. It was written for the Windows version, but everything works the same in the Mac version (just remember, "alt"="option"). Also, make sure you use the regions folder in your Documents folder. For some reason, the game doesn't recognize new region folders placed in the regions folder in the SC4 Data folder (at least in my experience).

I think just leave it there.

I think I know what TEG is talking about, and if I do, it won't delete any of your plugins or cities, but it will reset the game's preferences. That is, it will reset everything that you could change using the "hold option at startup" window, including hopefully, the fact that the window no longer shows up.
-
So even if you hold down the option key, the options window doesn't open?

Really strange textures since I started playing again.
bwatterud replied to Moby92's topic in SC4 Mac Users
All of the bugs have "conflicting plugins," written all over them, and since they're still happening with no plugins, it might very well have something to do with the Leopard update (maybe some of the game .dats got scrambled around or something). Have you tried a reinstall yet? -

My diagnosis: Pics 1-2: Conflict between the church, and another building you have installed. Find the conflicting building, and remove it. Pic 3: The game is reading a building fsh (I think that's what it's called), as terrain textures. Possibly a conflict between the terrain mod and a downloaded building (though the building looks maxisish, it could be something with the way you installed the terrain mod). Try reinstalling the terrain mod, make sure you get all the dependencies, the latest version (probably from SC4D), and follow the instructions in the readme to the letter. If that doesn't work, find the building that's showing up instead of the rock textures and remove it. Pics 4-5: Both appear to be conflicts with the euro mod and the game. Make sure you have the most recent version of the Euro mod (you'll probably have to go to SC4D). If anything I said doesn't work, then the best suggestion I can give you is to quarantine your plugins folder. Divide your plugins up into 3 or 4 folders, start a new region, and test the game with each one installed. When you find the problem folder, divide that up like you did your main folder, and use that technique to narrow it down to the individual file. -
A CML? For me? You shouldn't have.

Bootcamp would probably be the best choice for you, since it's the only free option (minus the cost of Windows, but you said that's not a problem for you). There's a Bootcamp installation guide available for download here (there's probably a copy of it on your computer somewhere, but I wouldn't know where to find it).

My BAT building's lights aren't workings at night.

Hey, no harm in trying. -

Since you're on a Mac, sorry, you're out of luck. The BAT nightlight fix is one of the many things that didn't make it into an update for the Aspyr port of our beloved game. There is a way to "enable" the nightlights of BAT buildings for the Mac version of SC4, but it requires Windows, is pretty labor intensive (it can take anywhere from 60 to 90+ minutes to enable a single building, depending on the size), and there can only be a certain number used at a time (I think around 20-30). I did release a https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/index.cfm?id=17633>pack of four buildings a little while back (there were two other packs up before mine, but they were removed by the author), but for the most part, you're out of luck. Sorry. -
Since you already have a copy of the Windows version, I'd suggest using one of the solutions for running it on your new Mac. If you already have a copy of Windows XP or Vista, use Bootcamp, or Fusion if you have some money to spare for it. If you don't have a copy of Windows, Crossover Games will run SC4 on a Mac, and costs less than the Aspyr port of Deluxe.

Trixie Awards 2008 Acceptance Speeches
bwatterud replied to Dirktator's topic in Simtropolis Related
Hey cool, a shiny medal under my name. I must say that when I first joined ST, I never thought I'd be getting an award someday (of course, I didn't find out about the Trixies until about eight months after I joined, but shut up I had a good thing going ). So anyway, I'd like to thank the acad...*music starts playing*...hey wait I wasn't fi...*music volume increases*.....sigh -
Do the terraforming tools work differently in the Mac version?
bwatterud replied to feorag's topic in SC4 Mac Users
On the Mac version, "Shift-F1" through "Shift-F10" changes the strength of the tool, while "Shift-1" through "Shift-0" changes the size. The hole digging lots are good, but unless you're doing something like digging a sunken network trench, their use is somewhat limited.
