Zoning Improvements underway following beta feedback
mapboy posted a topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
Good to see they're addressing this, but I still wished they'd revert to the zoning shown in the gameplay video, or even to how it was shown in the glassbox previews where you could determine the depth of the plot. -
I expect the extra runways are modules.
-
Just wait for the non-preorder normal edition. If you wait a month or two, it'll even be cheaper. This is what I'm intending to do at the moment.

Zoning Improvements underway following beta feedback
mapboy replied to mapboy's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
It's not like the previews though. I've read that the reason they switched from that is because the corners glitched with that system. -
I managed to play the beta for 50 minutes after it told me the SimCity servers were down (as it was the end of the beta)
-
Um, the beta ended by 'this morning', no matter what time zone you are in, so you couldn't have got in anyway...
-
I very much hope that when the game is released that they don't make the installer/the disc be 10% of the data, and 'updates' be the other 90%, because as this beta has shown, my internet will not cope with such large amounts of data. I don't know how people with the minimum 256kbps would survive! (I'm on 1.8mbps...) Does anyone know if whether I uninstall the beta, will I be able to reinstall it, or will my beta key then be 'used' and I'm left with nothing....? Edit: I found out on the EA Beta forums that I should be fine.
-
An my beta experience got worse... Internet slowed to a crawl, and the downloads failed, yet the launcher continued as if all was well. Now I have error 1004 and can't do anything
-
Only 21% through the update process and I've hit my daily data cap.... I may never get to play the beta (It's annoying since only yesterday we updated to more data on a monthly plan and it hasn't been changed over yet...)
-
Keys are still be given out over the next day or so, so you're still in luck
-
I got a key sent to me a couple of hours ago (I'm in New Zealand), but my internet's capped so I don't even know if I'm going to be able to download it in time to play it Edit: 80% downloaded already - looks like I'm going to be able to play! The file seems to only be 250 or 300MB... (which I find quite small) Edit 2: But of course, there are also 'updates' to download once you launch the game...
-
Thanks. Since I have a daily limit of 1.2GB, I think I'll unfortunately have to just wait for the final release
-
It requires 10GB of space. I am aware of the system requirements, but I doubt the beta download would be that big...
-
To anyone that already has the Beta, how large is the download? I won't to know whether to bother trying to get a key in one of these giveaways...

New SimCity in game videos
mapboy replied to guitarmatt99's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I don't believe UDI has been implemented into this game, but as these videos show you are able to follow vehicles around the city (just not control them) -
Will the installer also be able to remove components from earlier RHW, NWM etc releases?
-
To be honest, the downloading of the beta is going to be a pain for people like me that have to live with data caps. :/

This is so there are only two widths of roads, allowing for easy upgrading, that's all. I'd rather have wide grass berms on lower-capacity avenues and be able to upgrade to higher capacities, than have to demolish all the buildings when upgrading a road (as I have previously feared, but was corrected so nicely by MaxisGuillaume )
-
My guess is that is a result of the design decision to tie zoning to road types. They've said that narrow four lane roads can also support high densities, so this would just be the player's preference.
-
Holy cow! Just when I thought NAM 31 couldn't get any more exciting!

Forming Groups to play together.

How can you organise this when you don't even know what regions will be available in the game? (Referring mostly to the resource description) And not all regions will be 16 cities big.... -
If you linked the source, you'd be able to tell the whole story of that screenshot: It's a glitch! This is not what I meant by "taxi to a tourist trap" #simcity #bug pic.twitter.com/vyofLIiw — Guillaume Pierre (@MaxisGuillaume) January 8, 2013

SimCity: Transit and Roading Networks
mapboy replied to alvinheriadi's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
They've said that there isn't any route drawing, but routes are created based on demand or something like that. -

Timbuktu wasn't a cheesy name? haha https://maps.google....F-8&sa=N&tab=wl it's a real location... I know it's real, but it known best as being "the middle of nowhere" in a joke. -
Crashes occur based on a tile's congestion as shown in the traffic tile view. The game has higher congestion at intersections but not at corner, and replacing a corner with a curve does not affect traffic congestion.
