How long does it take after a deal cancellation for the neighbor deal offer to come back? I've had my attempts to build a power-supplying city thwarted by this; not only does the power deal get cancelled, but as far as I can tell the offer never comes back on the table.

This is probably a question that's been answered before, but does the game actually model the effect of extra stops on commute time? For a while I've wanted to do experiments on that, but I figure (at least one) someone here already has.

To zone deeper than 3, hold down the key while zoning.quote> This is probably a stupid question, but hold down which key? I normally hold down shift when I zone to keep streets from appearing; is this what you're talking about?

Problem solved! (apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but I figured the solution might come in handy for anyone who has this problem in the future) All I needed to do was uninstall the nvidia drivers and grab an older one (the one that worked for me was from late 2003). I also stripped out directx9 and installed directx8, but I'm not sure that's necessary; I think all that's needed is an older set of drivers.

Same with changing screen resolution. Could this possibly be a directx issue? I'm actually sort of tempted to reinstall windows next time I have time to actually play sim city, since I only keep around my windows partition for games anyway.

I've tried reinstalling the game and no dice; what I have discovered, though, is that the problem goes away if I turn off hardware rendering. This isn't a "solution" in any meaningful sense, given how slow software rendering is, but it seems like a clue. I suspect my video card driver; the box in question has a GeForce 2 MX in it, with the latest Nvidia drivers. Would it be worth my time to try to track down older drivers to see if they work better?

For the past little while my Sim City 4 install (Deluxe + the patch from simcity.com) has been unplayable due to the landscape textures not rendering properly. Things look alright in the region mode, but when I drop down to make a new city I get a (more or less) solid black landscape (see attached image). My system is an old 1 ghz PIII with 512 mb of RAM; all my other games work, and Sim City worked well (except for the occasional crash) up until a few weeks ago. Thanks to anyone who can help me with this.
