  1. Facebook to go Down

There is no way Anonymous will be able to use their normal bag of tricks like DDoS on Facebook; its servers are well equipped for huge spikes traffic. Maybe the site is a little slow on November 5th, but anything more than that will be a shock to me.
  2. American Politics

I must point out that there will be more than two candidates on the ballot. If you don't like Obama or the Republican, you don't have to vote for either, there are other options. Technically true, but I think we both know that the mechanizations of the political system has been manipulated by the Republican and Democratic parties to render any third parties irrelevant. Either they're "absorbed" into the main party with their ideals perverted or they're marginalized and discredited. I understand it takes the people to break this perpetual cycle, but right now I highly doubt that casting my vote for other parties like the Green party candidate will be anything but symbolic.
  3. American Politics

I feel like there is a disconnect between logic and politics that is impairing the Republican Party's ability to make sound decisions governing this country (NO new taxes, NO tax reform, NO compromise). The field of presidential candidates that the party has presented does nothing to assuage my feelings, only to exacerbate them. I can not understand how Rick Perry can garner the support he has thus far. Two years ago George Bush was the most despised American on the planet, and now a more extreme version of him and his policies has enraptured the republican caucus. Really?!? In all fairness, Im still just blown away that he was elected to a third term as governor in Texas. President Obama has me feeling utterly disenfranchised with the political system considering his object failure to impose the "change we can believe in"... I am so disappointed in his complete disregard for environmental reforms. He promised to push the agenda of global warming into a coherent political debate with real reforms. That has not happened at all. I don't want to vote for President Obama in the next election cycle, but right now he is the lesser of two evils. my 2 cents
  4. BBC Market Watch Link

Thanks Tea Party my stock portfolio is significantly reduced. I wanted to sell high but following the Tea party's illustrious footsteps I refused to accept any compromise whatsoever and didn't sell any of my stocks for a penny less than my ludicrous demands, lest I be seen as weak. That's perfectly fine by me; I didn't want to be a job creator anyways because the Democrats are out to get those guys!
  5. ST 2011 NFL Thread.

No lie, Aaron Rodgers is the best qb in the game right now. Packers are loaded, but that's the beauty of the NFL, you never know who is going to win it all, no matter how loaded a team is on paper.

Yea Jerry world hasn't been very successful in a while. You know I was observing that most of our current star players came from the Parcells regime; Romo, Ware, Austin, Ratliff, Newmann, Witten. 2009 draft was a COMPLETE bust. You would like to think that Jerry would notice the pattern of player personnel success when he relinquishes control of player acquisitions; aka Jimmy Johnson, aka Bill Parcells....

Oh an Iggles fan are you?!? Lol I hope that we can coexist on this forum. No I think that the Eagles are obviously in great shape this year because of their excellent front office. As long as Vick is healthy you guys should win the division. I'm nitpicking here, but I do think that all the publicity is overlooking the fact that the linebacker corp is mediocre at best and the offensive line just wasn't that good last year. I am a born and raised Texan, but I feel remarkably little allegiance to the state. I find its majority political ideology to be backward and incorrect. A large segment of Cowboys fans are self-entitled snobs who demand winning when they don't deserve it more than any other franchise in the NFL...you should see the ignoramus on the Cowboy fansite boards. And yet, Im still a Texan, and Im still a Cowboys fan Easy Bakes you're coming up to 8 years with Simtropolis wow!
  8. ST 2011 NFL Thread.

Good to have the NFL back! I am not optimistic about the Cowboys this year. I have little doubt that Tyron Smith will eventually be an elite tackle in this league provided he stays healthy, but right now he is going to struggle with no training camp, an inadequate right guard next to him,and a steep learning curve at age 20. That being said, Mark Columbo was rated as one of the very worst linemen last year so its not like there anywhere to go but up as far as improvements from the right tackle spot. The defense can't be great until it produces a good free safety. Alan Ball was atrocious there last year, and right now we don't have a replacement for him. That being said, even with a new defensive scheme run under Rob Ryan, this unit will have to work to actually be worse than last years. The Cowboys schedule is much easier than last year, so I honestly expect them to contend for the playoffs this year, and if they can make it, I feel like anything goes. It will be interesting to watch this season play out. I also think Tony Romo and the offense are going to put up insane numbers in the passing game, which will be fun to watch as well.
  9. Jet fuel tax breaks OVER!

I didn't realize the most powerful military in the world is a joke. The U.S. only spends about $ 550,000,000,000 more than the next country each year...milesdata.sipri,org
  10. NBA Playoffs 2011

And how a sick Dirk was spreading his sickness on the court, he should have been in bed resting, instead of making people sick :\ So Michael Jordan's flue game shouldn't have happened either? Besides, Dirk had a sinus infection, not really contagious in the same manner as other illnesses. I don't recall Lebron James or Dwayne Wade coming down with a sinus infection after Dirk played with that...

Ha ha I wonder how many sick days were taken today? I wish I could have gone.
  12. NBA Playoffs 2011

If there is one sport I love and one team I root for with a passion, it is the Dallas Mavericks. I have grown up following Dirk Nowitzki, from the big 3 years run by Don Nelson, the Avery Johnson years, and now this. I have followed every triumph and and every heartbreak that this team has faced through the years. I am truly happy to see the Mavericks win it all this year.
  13. BSC - VIP / Girafe's skills on the BAT

You are incredibly talented! I can't imagine how much time you must be devoting to these projects, they look phenomenal! I hope you find the motivation to continue with this work
  14. SPAs Urbanist BAT Thread

Everything here looks fantastic Spa. I love the detailing and the parking is coming along nicely. Normally I just lurk on these threads, but seeing you mention the website archive3d, one that I frequent on occasion, I have to ask what is normal protocol on proper credit being given to the creator of digital content? At ST we obviously cite the original creator of content uploaded to the STEX, but here the creator is clearly identified. On websites like archive3d it is oftentimes ambiguous on who the creator of content is, and consequently makes it hard to give proper credit to that person for their work. Would you have any idea on how you give proper credit in a case where you have appropriated another person's work to be included as a part of your own? Sorry to be a distraction, but I do hope you or one of the great people at this forum could help clarify this. Thanks
  15. Autodesk 3dsMax for Free Legally

Autodesk has formally released its 3DS Max 2012 edition on its website. As always, students can download it for free with an .edu email address. New features in 2012 includes enhanced uvw map unwrapping, new modeling techniques, and perhaps most exciting to me is a comprehensive procedural texturing system.
  16. google sketch-up model to simcity?

If you have 3DS Max 2011 you can use it to import Sketchup V7 files which preserves many features of Sketchup that are lost when converted to .3ds files including layers and groups of objects.
  17. mipro Barry Sanders Project

Thank you for the responses, I appreciate them a lot. I'll be working on a school project for the next six weeks that actually won't deal too much with bitmap texturing, but I have a couple of older projects that I would love to update the textures on and export to the BAT after finishing this current project.
  18. mipro Barry Sanders Project

I know this is not a question easily answered, but what are your preferred methods for creating the textures to your various projects? More specifically, how do you go about creating the engaging wall and roof textures. Do you go about this with UVW unwrapping textures edited in Photoshop or some other manner like adding noise maps in 3DS Max to generic textures to alleviate tiling effects? I think all the members of BSP are incredibly talented at the texturing process, so I would love to gain some insight into your design strategies regarding this.

At least the NBA is getting it right, they plan on having Josh Groban perform the national anthem for the All Star game. I expect nothing less than a tear-inducing near perfect masterpiece from him. And all the correct lines to the song...

  21. ST's 2010 NFL Thread

I think Garret will make a very good Head Coach from a game manager and team manager stand point. He has the right temperament to lead the team, while he seems very intelligent in game planning. That being said, if we are to observe the Cowboys draft history on the offensive side of the ball since Garret first arrived and began having a say in player acquisitions, it becomes obvious that his scouting ability is not exceptionally good, but not too bad. In the last three drafts we have added Tashard Choice, Felix Jones, Martellus Bennet, Doug Free, and Dez Bryant. Not a bad haul, but outside of Dez Bryant, no one here looks to be able to perform at an impact level. They are merely solid starters all acquired with relatively high draft picks that should be expected to perform at least as much as they have (two 1st rounders, one 2nd rounder, two 4th rounders). I think hiring Garret is the right move, but I think its crucial that the Cowboys acquire a very smart young defensive coordinator that follows the mold of recent successful 3-4 coordinators in utilizing aggressive, exotic blitz packages like Rex Ryan, his brother, or Sean McDermott. some musings for improving the team this year... We should draft Patrick Peterson with our first pick and stick him at free safety and then focus on filling our offensive line needs in the draft. We could maybe sign Jared Odrick, a good young player from the Baltimore Ravens, to replace Marc Columbo at right tackle. Also I think that we need to resign Marcus Spears because our defensive line was trash all year. They are supposed to stop the run and hold the line allowing Ware and Spencer to make plays in the backfield. They did very little of that. Stephen Bowen, Jason Hatcher, and Igor Oshanksy all dramatically underperformed this year ( of course that can be said for anyone not named Demarcus ware on the Cowboys defense...) Hopefully the Cowboys can right the ship in one offseason, but I'm not optimistic...
