  1. Can't Find It? Ask Here!

Za, you are correct. It's #12 on the hit parade. I sure had trouble finding the page with the top 50. Dunno why. Thanks for the help.
  2. Can't Find It? Ask Here!

Hmmm... I remember once having (pre-HDD crash) some additional terrain tools that can be used in mayor mode. In fact, I think it was called "Extra Terrain Tools" or something similar. STEX searching isn't getting it. Anyone know about this mod?
  3. It doesn't matter what keyword I enter, I'm getting this everytime: Uh-oh, an error has occurred! Notifying webmaster... We recommend you start over... #URL.error# [ Go Back ]quote> Anyone? Help?
  4. STEX search function busted?

    \o/ It's working!
  5. Can't Find It? Ask Here!

@Castellanox7 Can't help you with #1 and #2. For #3, try the ST Exchange and do a keyword search with "euro" for things European. There is also a complete euro emergency vehicle mod by swamper77 at the SC4 Devotion site but you must register first, then do a category search for "Mods - Transport," or by the author's name. I haven't tried swamper's mod so I don't know if it will give you the sound you want but swamper77 does good stuff so it probably does. @sheikhfaisol Buy it at amazon.com or try PriceGrabber.com

Uh, didn't Arctic_Snowcapped_Mod.zip used to be here?
  7. Can't Find It? Ask Here!

You're right, it is a great site! Hope you enjoy this place as much as I do. Try using a different, more unique key word search, like "seasonal," instead. I found many downloads available. Do the same for "farm" and there's several pages of things you can try. Of course, this is all available from the STEX (ST-Exchange), linked at the top of this page.
  8. The SWAP works for me and is great fun for this old gamer/pilot, based on one day's experience with it. *tips wing* There are a few minor things that could be "improved," which I would do myself if I knew how. So I guess after all the PC user crashing issues have been addressed and there's give-a-s*** time available by some one who knows how, here's a few things that could be looked at in the next release: The prefab runways can't level/flatten the terrain. Although most real runways have some slope, it's not natural to see runways humped over hilly ground. Real aircraft don't respond well to this situation. Not a show stopper, if you've picked your location for an airport logically and know how to use the God-mode terraforming tools and can live with collateral damage to any surrounding structures. This seems to be true of other tiles, like the pre-fab terminal+gate tiles. Maybe mention this in the Readme. Mentioned earlier, the blue mouse-over arrow for placement of some ground parts is a little confusing. My fix was to plop tiles for up, right, down, and left as a template on a free area to use as a reference. You need this especially for lighting. I have no suggestion on how to improve this, perhaps just pick a consistent/intuitive direction for what is the "front" (arrow) of the tile. For lighted tarmac, maybe have the arrow point to lighted edge. Related to the above, the Security Center will be plopped backwards if you consider the mouse-over arrow to be the "front," like other SC4 stuff. The rear fence faces the street, etc. However, it works and I haven't seen anycomplaint about vehicle access. I'd just like to see the graphic rotated 180 degrees. This seems to be true of the Tram center as well. The front has a tarmac appearance and the back has a street access look. In the real world (remember that place?), runway edge lights do not blink and taxiway edge lights are blue, not green, and also don't blink. Anyway, I'm very glad the SWAP is available and has so much to offer the game. Again, another wing tip for all who have contributed and made this thing possible. Edit Hmmm, BB code trouble I guess
  9. Can't Find It? Ask Here!

Yes, that's right. For some reason (again, operator error I suppose) a keyword search there puts me back to the login page and loops. Thanks a lot for the link!
  10. Can't Find It? Ask Here!

New topic, I collected jeronij's JRJ Street Side Mod (from SC4D) and one of its dependencies is jeronij Props Vol3 Plopable Trees And Seasonal Woods with a link to a STEX page that doesn't have it. No luck with keyword search "jeronij." Where can I get this mod?

I don't know why I couldn't find it before when I used keyword search. Must have been some kind of operator error.

However, this is a full region with a lot of development, so it's a big file (71+ Mb). maxisland <edit: Oh yeah, there's also a smaller trial region with cities available from simcity.ea.com, region play /edit> Now, for my questions: 1. It's probably hidden in plain sight, but I can't find a download link for xiziz's SimWings Airport Pack. I did find the BAT forum thread for it, but no link or search ("simwings") success. 2. I saw somewhere a tutorial for making curvy roads and it used structural retaining walls alongside at various points--not part of the roadway, but added later for effect. Sound familiar to anyone?
  13. I've played Sim City games since the original, on a Macintosh, back in, um, the 1900's something, then moved to the PC platform (still the original version). I left off with the 3000 Unlimited version a few years back and then decided to try the Sim City 4 Deluxe game starting about a week ago which I purchased new (old stock) from an amazon.com seller. Well, it was crash, crash, crash (and still is) even though my machine specs are more than triple the recommended for this game. Lock up crash, crash to the desktop, crash to a BSD--I get them all. This site is a boon to game masochists like me--I made sure my drivers were the latest available, increased virtual memory to 4000-something initial and 4000-something maximum for my XP OS, turned off my fire wall, deactivated anti-virus software, turned off graphics anti-aliasing, removed/minimized my plugins. Let's see, what have I forgotten? Turned down graphics resolution, killed background processes.... Okay it's a little better now that I've done all these, and it's mostly due to the info from this site--but it STILL crashes which means I save after every dramatic (and sometimes not so dramatic) change to a city. That part's not so bad. It's the unexpected restarting after the inevitable crash (in 5, 10, 15 minutes max) that's annoying. I can almost hear the historical records of the game's developers playing in my head while waiting for my system to restart (yeah, I'm that crazy, I guess). SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT: "But it's not ready yet! You f4ing bean counters don't have a clue about how complex this game is or what it takes to get this sucker working for so many different PC configurations!" FINANCE LACKEY: "Doesn't matter. We gotta get this one out the door NOW. Any problems turn up later, you can fix it with update patches!" SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT: "Yeah, well--if there's still any of us left here at this train wreck to take care of those!" So, have you noticed? On the SimCity 4.com site there don't seem to be any adim postings after about the year 2004 or so--and you can't buy the game from EA's (Electronic Arts) online store either. I don't know about you, but I tend to think EA has written this game off, which makes me even more grateful for this site and the folks who help out us doofuses. Of course, it may all be just me and my system. YMMV. I'd love to hear from anyone who plays this game without the frequent crashes--they're out there aren't they? In the meantime, I'll wait for my PC to reboot.
  14. Sim City 4 - the crashinest game ever?

Thank you all for trying to help. SC4 is the ONLY game I have ever had such problems with (and I play a lot of them). Turning down my CPU clock speed or texture quality or city detail are things I do not wish to do and should not have to, based on my system's components Therefore, I am retiring my SC4 disks to the box labeled "Old CDs" and moving on. In doing so I will join Electronic Arts in abandoning this game. Please note my decision to do this in no way reflects on this web site or those folks who took the time and trouble to try and help me. If you enjoy SC4 and it works for you then this is definitely the place to be for help and extras. rockAteer
