"The Cities XL website is unavailable until Thursday 25th February due to a heavy maintenance operation. We apologize for the inconvenience" roughly translates as "OH GOD! We forgot we promised to upload some pictures from that contest we came up with at the arse-end of last year but we don't have a server to store them and we've been banned from Imageshack!". Just kidding. It's probably a new bus and a park.

Wonder how long it'll take before you're verbally abused due to the lack of railways and buses in the Single Player. Providing you're all set up before March, that is.

The more personalised, the better in my opinion. Custom buildings are also important but I imagine implementing naming areas/streets would be much easier to code in.

Fingers crossed it's Custom Content or at least a comprehensive railway system for single player. Probably just a Ski GEM though. The news is here, so this thread is a bit unecessary. Topic closed, please post in this thread, thanks. Liv CXL Forums Moderator

Gutting to go onto the official website to see "Happy New Year!" still sat there as their last update. Optimistically, you can imagine they've been working on something huge. Pessemistically, well, we've been there before.
-
I'm very concerned about this as well, since I've now bought it. I scoffed at "They're going bust" comments but it's a bit worrying that there's been not so much as an update from even Matthew_MC on here.
-
Sorry to gatecrash the thread, folks but what are these Blueprints? Are you creating your own buildings?
-
Anyone know what MC are currently working on, update wise? Can't find much.

Echo all of things poshbakerloo suggested. Would love to see all that in the game.

Most of the other ideas I've had have been mentioned already are escaping me at the moment. Would it be possible to sell advertising space in the game? Would probably work more easily in the online game but I'm thinking along the lines of companies renting out billboards or even better, large LED screens like in Times Square or London's Piccadilly Circus? Would brighten up cities and earn some extra cash for MC in the meantime. Everyone's a winner! Actually, just thought of another! When building stadia, it would be good to personalise the sports teams who play there and have them pitted against other sports teams from neighbouring cities. Perhaps in a GEM? Would add realism and an added bite to city rivalry online.

4. Can you build Cul-de-sacs (believe they're known as "court" in US and AUS) naturally or does the game struggle with the concept like in SC4? I.e. do cars drive down them in their dozens, turn round and drive out again? 5. Are all the maps the same size (10-10km?) and does it seem/feel larger than the large map areas on SC4? 6. Do you see any dodgy characters or criminals roaming the streets like in SC4? Or can you build "rough areas" or ghettos? Everything I've seen so far looks pretty quaint.

I'm looking forward to trains. Much prefer them to buses in games and reality. I want to cram my city centres with people so I'll need the capacity trains offer to ferry people in and out.
-
Excellent screenshot, Mastaflex. What approx population had you reached by that point? And how many citizens do you have now?
-
So, when I eventually get round to playing this... If I start off my city, building from the very centre of the map and outwards I'll encounter problems with passengers? Are everyone's cities heavily built up round the edge of the maps?

How do the cities link together other than trade? While we've established there's no physical or geographical connection, does this mean that you cannot accept traffic or tourists from other cities? I think it would be great if, in future there were more logical connections so you feed or feed off other's cities in more ways than agreed trade deals. I imagine that's probably quite difficult to make happen though.

Hmm...that doesn't sound good. I prefer to build more a nucleus city with one main CBD (usually central), rather than an LA "slapdash" approach (no offence to any LA folks, of course). Maybe the new bus service and future train services and subways will fix this anyway.
-
Re; Q2, something along the lines of this, basically - or something more along the lines of to give my cities a "Wrong side of the tracks" kinda feel. More realistic if not everywhere's so quaint looking.
-
Excellent thread! Just two questions, my good man; 1) If CXL becomes user modifiable, would you consider doing similar for that? 2) Have you made any rough council estate type houses? Or redbrick town terraced houses with minimal yard/garden space? (I.e. ) Keep up the excellent work!
-
I'm less-than-***** at this as I've not bought the game yet so, here apologies for some probably simple questions. But here goes: 1. Does everything have to be zoned? I.e. can I build a row of houses on a single road like on Sim City or must I draw grids everywhere? 2. On Planet Offer, are user's cities linked geographically so that when I send off a rail link or road link across a boundary, will that match up "next door", as it did on Sim City? (I hope so, but can obviously see it causing conflict). 3. Can you walk around your city as an avatar or enter any buildings?
