No I don't get any error messages. The installation menu doesn't come up even if I double click AutoRun.

I was thinking of building Minas Tirith from LotR. -
How do you guys get such big cities?
kaploosh replied to DarkSoul's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Actually, it's best to get a big city size for your first city. It gives lots of space for development and is somewhat easier. Players who want a real challenge choose the small square cities. I never touch those. Anyway, what you mentioned above was a demand cap. If you break out of the demand cap, your whole city should be filled with high rises in your case. To break out of the cap, build tons of parks. It may be worth it to demolish some buildings. However, you should also check if your desirability for certain areas are high. Low Desirability stalls development and causes buildings to blacken (abandon). -
Alright. The main thing about SC4 is that you make a profit while building cities. There are a few points you need to look out for. ~Don't plop more power plants than your city needs. I recommend starting out with a windmill. It's small and doesn't pollute. When development occurs, your city advisor will start pestering you about imminent power plant failures and that's when you upgrade your windmill. ~Don't supply water until you reach 1100 people in your city. Only medium and high density development need water. Since you never get medium or high ddenstiy development before your city reaches 1100 people, there's no point supplying water. ~Build schools at the start of your city. trust me, your city will grow better with more educated sims. However, decrease funding to meet the current requirement. ~Do not build police stations and fire stations in the beginning. They do not help alot. Build one only when it is really necessary. Basically, you should be making a profit if you regularly attend to your resident's needs. Just for info, I actually mak 200K a month while using this technique.

I've downloaded the NAM and I'm still getting irritating zots over my buildings. In the end, I end up with a handful of abondoned buildings or even a city of abandoned buildings. What's more, Sims are so lazy that a drive across 5 tiles of avenue is long. I'm getting sick of these nonsense my sims put up against me and I'm so fed up because my population never increases then. Can someone recommend me some really good mods to change those problems? Or maybe a modder could create a new mod for these problem. I would be eternally grateful to him or her. *PS: I wouldn't want the anti delapitation mod because some people say there's a bug in it.
-
I plonked the entire NAM into my plugins folder. Didn't even bother to see what it contained. Anyway, could someone teach me how to mod? So I can get rid of these commute nonsense. Or maybe someone could do the mod. PS: Iwould prefer if someone taught me how to mod because I've not contributed to Simtropolis before. (Just don't tell Webmaster Dirk I didn't contribute.)

Yay! Thanks! Alright , my city's going well again and so I decided to start a completely new city. Now, I'm stuck with a really freaky problem. My resident lives right next to his workplace. Just next door. Not even one tile away and he starts to complain that he's jobless. It's like this: _______ RJ------- R is that fellow who has no job and J is that fellow's job. the line above is and avenue. As you can see, this is very ridiculous. I don't know what these idiots in my city want from me now. Can someone explain why is that fussy guy complaining he's jobless?

I've seen lots of CJs and all sorts of pictures of other people's city. And so I was just wondering where they get those nice little one way roundabouts. Someone please give me a link to get Roundabouts, please.
-
Well, I've demolished all the R$$$ buildings because all they do is sit there and blacken. So there's not much R$$$ residents left. But my R$ & R$$ are complaining that a trip on subway to an office 8 tiled away is long. Anyway, I raised funding for roads to 120% and it still seems that these idiots do not have the sense to take the shortest possible route to their work. I'm really sick of these illogical lazy Sims. It's as if work is their life. It's so disgusting to see them behave like that. Eurgh... Just give me some tips on how to solve this problem. I'll be forever greatful.

The Perfect Computer For Playing SimCity 4
kaploosh replied to SMD1990's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
If you don't care a heck about burning a hole in your pocket, I recommend you get a computer of 2 Gig of RAM, and a processor of 4 GHz. Anyway, try to get a nVidia video card. It's much better than ATI. -
That's cool! I've never thought of using ring roads in my cities before. Anyway, thanks for yee advice.
-
I'm much lazier than those Sims: I just rezone those R.zones where Sims complain about commute to C.zones.

Please help me, need more money!!!
kaploosh replied to adam32386's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
It really pays to invest in education and mass transit. Now, I'm making a monthly profit of 30000 per month within 5 years because I built a pile of schools and a mass transit system. --How too raise profit to 30000 within 5 years-- ~Built libraries where people are old and build schools where people are young. Libraries never work unless you have schools. ~Make sure the coverage area of your educational structure does not overlap. This saves money. ~Lower your funding to meet the requirements of your city (I skip this because I was lazy and couldn't be bothered to lower funding). ~Ignore the pesky advisors. ~Watch your city's EQ rise while High tech demand increases too. ~Build a monorail (doesn't have congestion and is the fastest means of mass transport available) system from your Residential Area to your Business Areas. It's good even if you built just one stretch of track across your R.zones and your I.zones and two stations. ~If you plan to do UDI, it's best to create a loop because you cannot U-turn those monorail carriages. ~You may wish to waste money by adding other means of mass transit such as Rails or Subways. ~To make sure those monorails are used to capacity, place bus stops next to the stations and other bus stops next to homes. ~After several hours of fun, drop a meteor on your handiwork and see your city get destroyed. ~Rebuild the city for more fun. -
Mayor Rating problems and growth problems
kaploosh replied to DUBCity22's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Can I request that some super modder in Simtropolis create a mayor rating patch? I would really appreciate it because it makes me feel so horrible whenever I see that red arrow pointing towards the left on my MR bar. -
Mayor Rating plummetting....
kaploosh replied to panthersimcity4's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
Decrease pollution and add a whole damn lot of parks. Hell with whatever decrease in Industrial and Commercial demand . Because it's the residents that rate you. See? If they're complaining on no jobs, place a monorial to connect an industrial zone to your residents. Monorials do not have congestions and they're by far the fastest means of transportation. It's worth the price. Add whatever rewards you earn because they WILL increase Mayor Rating. Try not to get high wealth because they are real naggers. It's very hard to satisfy them. Another way is to add Landmarks. They should increase your MR unless you decrease maintainance funds by too much. -
Upqrade all your roads to one way roads and Avenues. Do not built any tollbooths and create a main highway right across you city. Make sure it branches outwards. You may want to try building Monorail and intiate the Public Transport ordinance. Or try building a neighbouring city with only Industries and connect your city and the industrial city with a main highway. If you do this, zone residential next to the edges of your city. If not, initiate the use carpool ordinance but be wary of air polution.
