I'm sorry to hear that your game keeps locking up. Wish I could be more useful on this board and give out advice, but when it comes to tech stuff, I'm quite stupid about it all. I'm saving your reply so I can find all those files once I'm hooked up at home again. Thank you, Crissa

I'm going to be buying my MacBook Pro this weekend. I'll also be ordering a copy of SC4 Duluxe from Amazon. I just want to make sure I install everything properly when it arrives, so if someone could just let me know if missing a step (or two), I would appreciate it. 1. Install SC4D ($60???!!!) 2. Install SC4 Rush Hour Universal Update from Aspyr 3. Install Mac version of Nam from Simtropolis 4. I'm thinking of ordering the STEX collections from Simtropolis. I know vol 1 is Mac supported, but vol 2 says "not 100% of Macs are supported, you may try at your own risk!" Has anyone risked this? Does it work? Would it work with a MacBook Pro (lower end version)? 5. I'm not sure about FileJuicer. I don't play SC all that often; two or three times a month and if I get most of the STEX I need from the STEX collection, I'm not sure that I would need it. Opinions? Comments? I think that's everything, but if I'm missing something, please let me know. Thank you! TE

That was my main concern, buying the macbook only to discover that I could only use my "practical" software (i.e. quicken and the like) and all the fun stuff would be too much. TE

Hello, I'm on the verge of buying a new lap top and using it to replace my slowly dying Dell Dimension. I've decided to go back to using a Mac. My first two computers were Macs and the only reason I switched was because my school only supported PCs. I still haven't decided exactly what I'm going to buy yet. Money is certainly a factor, but only one of many. As far as Sim City 4 is concerned what should I be looking for in a Mac i.e. memory, speed, storage. I apologize if I'm not making myself very clear. I'm not a "techie" person. Computers are like cars for me: I can make it run, but don't ask me to fiddle with it. I'm not looking to transfer my cities or plugins or anything like that. I'm perfectly okay with starting from scratch. I guess another question would be loading the NAM or plugins. I managed to figure it out on the PC, but is it more or less the same with the MacBooks? Any advice would be very, very helpful. Thank you!

Okay then, I guess my hospital and school services are overcrowded. I'll try everyone's suggestions and see what happens. Thanks! TE

I was wondering if there's a point when SC4 simply will not allow you to get ahead in the game? My problem is this - I have a city that has hovered around 100k population for at least five years, possibly more. My buget is in the black, but it seems that no matter how much money I throw at the hospitals and schools, the doctors and teachers are constantly going on strike. They're overfunded as it is and I have plenty of coverage, I think. Is there a specific hospital/clinic/school to population ratio that I'm supposed to maintain to stop the strikes from occuring? Or is it just the SC4 not knowing when to stop throwing this particular roadblock into the game? TE

>Buildings that are not immediately critical you can set their funding to zero. Hi InfoScott, I did a lot of what you suggested and my city is back in the black. I even put off putting in a new power plant until the power advisor started "screaming" at me (didn't expect that). >This will all buy you time until you can restore your slum...er...R-$ population. If your mass transit is good, or even if it isn't, I would start a housing projects area of medium density residential in the outskirts of town and make sure it is well covered with a bus system. The area I bulldozed is starting to regrow and looks much nicer now. Unfortunately, in my panic, I expanded the residental and commercial zoning farther afield sooner than I wanted to. Housing is building like crazy, but I can't seem to get commercial building at all. More tinkering to do. TE

You're both right. Thanks, Rev and Frankie. I guess I didn't think losing one section of low res housing would have such a huge affect. I'll lower the taxes, get rid of some of the extras, and rebuild my tax base. TE

Since I've joined Simtropolis, I've learned a lot about designing my cities and I've been experimenting. However, I think I've dug myself into a hole and I'm not sure how to dig myself out. I was trying to figure out different roadway systems in my city, so it's not just endless square blocks of RCI. I completely bulldozed a large residential section that looked like slums and installed a city college there. I had hoped to add things like a library and a museum, but suddenly all my of RCI demands plunged. Nothing is growing. My budget, which seemed okay before, turned into the red. What should I do now? How do I get my RCIs back up? I've raised taxes and lowered expenses to get myself out of the red, but still my demands are deeply slumped. Should I just return the section I bulldozed back to high density residental zones and hope for the best? Should I do something drastic like install an airport and promote tourism? Help, please! TE

I'm a big LOTR fan myself. I'd love to see Rivendell. TE -
AH-HA!!! I got it. I figured out the problem. I had to lower the cookie-control and ad-blocking modules in my firewall. I didn't turn off the firewall, just those two sections. Now I have the NAM. Yea me!

Okay, I stil can't download NAM from Simtropolis. I cleaned out my cookies etc, but I just can't connect. I then went to stnam.com as advised, but I can't figure out where I'm supposed to go to download it. I read all the instructions under the Read Me section, but there's nothing there (that I read - maybe I missed a section) that actually says where the file is. I do see on the left side of my screen a message that says I'm not authorized view downloads files. Is this why I can't find the file? Any help is appreciated. TE

Yes, thank you for all of your help. I did clean out my cookie cache and did some fiddling with other settings. Everything seems to be working now. I really appreciate all of the advice! TE

Hi! I just signed up for this forum. I've been playing with SimCity 4 for just a short amount of time and I'm glad I found this forum because I've learned a lot. I just registered for this forum about 20 minutes ago. I browsed a little, then went into the STEX to try and download some stuff for my cities. I browsed up to about page 4, then I received a message saying that I had to register. Well, I had already registered, so I figured I got accidentally kicked off. But, when I went to sign in again, I was told that my username and password was wrong. When I returned to the other forum topics, I was still registered. I also tried getting into the chat, but it also rejected my username and password. My question is this: are newbies limited to what they can and cannot access until they post a certain number of times? Or something like that? Thanks! TE
