Future of SimCity Official Discussion Thread
locolobo85 replied to Compromise's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
I was one of the diehards. I got by with Win98SE for a LONG time. In the end it was the lure of new games that prompted me to build a new system for XP. SimCity 4 sat on a shelf in my studio for over a year. It was loaded on my 800mhz system and ran almost decent. Almost being the key word. It was way to slow to enjoy. But in the end the new games won out. Sim City was surely one of the reasons but I really have to blame Sid Meier for Pirates and CivIV. I don't know who's driving who. Are the game developers pushing the limits to ensure their game remains viable on the latest PCs for a longer period of time or are the game developers pushing the limits at the request of the hardware makers? I'm not much a conspiracy theorist, therefore, it seems to me that hardware technology is growing with or without the software. It just natural that the programmers would like to make the most of the hardware available and ensure they create a product that will endure the lifecycles of hardware development. Either way I'm loving my new system and finally realizing that I don't really have enough spare time in my life to enjoy SC4, CivIV and Pirates. It's going to take quite a while. These three games should carry me well into the 1st (maybe the 2nd) price drop for the PS3. As far as a new SimCity goes, hey, I'm just getting around to this one. What's the rush? :^) -
Game CTD on large city - help wanted

Here's to some headache free city building. I'm glad it was a simple fix. -
I'm not sure, but I think that may just be the way it is developed based on adjoining land value. As the values adjacent to the avenue increase so does the level of completion in the median.

Game CTD on large city - help wanted

It sounds like you may be back to square one. If this were my situation, I'd remove ALL traces of SC4 from my system. Save files and all. Maybe backup the save files off the computer just incase they were not part of the problem. Reboot, defrag+scan, reboot once into safe mode and run cleanmgr /sageset:50 (checking all but the last two) from the Run prompt (Win key + R), reboot once again and start all over with a clean install followed by an immediate patch install. Reboot yet again and keep my fingers crossed as I began all over again hoping for the best. If my problems were solved,I'd just suck it up and start my cities and regions over again from scratch and hope that this time throught the problem doesn't come back. That's just my 2 cents. That's were I would start. It may not help the situation at all but I'd know I was starting fresh with SC4 before getting into the system. As for me, I had to get much deeper into my system to stabilize and run SC4 on a P4 2.4c 512/800, 1G, ATi 128 M R9550, Abit AI-7 system using onboard sound. But my problems were most likely the ATi video card that has produced headaches for many a Simtropolite. ps: note the space in cleanmgr(space)/sageset:50 -
Don't overlook the fact that you can click on your services such as firestation, medical clinic, school, power plant, etc and set the funding for your current needs. Schools and medical clinics give you the student/patient capacity and current # of students/patients along with school bus and ambulance coverage (the circles on your city map). You can gauge the power plant on the % of usage. I usually don't mess aournd with police and fire. However, as stated above, a police station is overkill in a small growing community.

I'm new to sc4 and just recently installed the deluxe version and started building and playing the u-drive minigames. It seems to me that it is just a matter of time before the SC franchise gets matched up with one of the action adventure franchises. This may never happen, it may not be logical or possible, but it seems like a logical progression for players to be able to create their own cities, create missions and go into that city and play those missions in full 3D mode. Something along the lines of Grand Theft Auto (or the likes) meets SimCity. It would take free roam gaming to another level with a never ending array of cities and missions. -
Just to clarify. I didn't stop any processes manually. I created a hardware profile that only enables the hardware items and services necessary to run the computer for playing SC4. When I boot up in Sim City mode things like the USB ports, serial ports, network adapter, etc. are diabled along with some related services. Windows still decides what to load, I just tried to lighten the load and clear up some background clutter.

I now notice some of the local guru's do not suggest messing with your profiles as it may cause a good case of the jitters for the game and gamer. Therefore, proceed with caution and let your comfort level be your guide.

I created a hardware profile specifically for the game which freed up some resources by stopping processes and diabling un-need hardware devices.

First post. I'm new to the SC4 circle. I just finished a new computer build and loaded up SC4 Deluxe that had been sitting around for a while waiting for a computer to run it on. The first run throughs were a little rough with some video problems. After updating drivers and the game software, it ran even worse with very choppy scrolling and crashes during the Rush Hour missions. The solution for me turned out to be creating a hardware profile specifically for this game. The profile approach worked out great. I created a Sim City profile and dissabled all un-needed services and hardware. There was simply some process running in the background that was causing the problems. My guess is that your system will run this game hands down once the background clutter is cleared out of the way. Good luck.
