At first, I thought SCS concept is a little bit weird. But then again, I think it is good for anyone to try something new and therefore I am eager to give this new SC a try. There is a potential for this game to suck hard, but on the other hand there is also a potential that this game will be enjoyable despite its difference from the good old Sim City.

The only upgrade I'm planning in the near future would be my speaker set. My 6 yo DTT2500 is dying and I need a new set of speaker. In the next year I probably would do a full upgrade with the new upcoming 45nm Intel chips (if they turns out to be good, or I'll get AMD), a new video card, probably 4 GB of RAM and perhaps some other stuff. But since this is too preliminary I'm not sure how this plan would turns out.

What Music Do you listen to while playing SC4?
eedoon replied to hdorriker's topic in General Off-Topic
Since I don't have an external MP3 player (yet), I usually just listen to the radio - playing WinAmp in the background affect performances significantly. But from my music collection, the ones that works best with SC4 are classic big band music such as Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman - especially if you're working on a Chicagoan/New Yorkian city. Very stylish. -
This might not be happening soon but if the sun turns into a Red Giant we'll all be swallowed into it.

Try re-plopping the high school again from every direction and then bulldoze it.

SKU2 is the European version of SC4. If you select an update from ea website, select manual update. From there you can select which version of SC4 you are updating.

okay!

Most probably you have an incorrect patch version. If you're from Europe or have European version of SC4, try using SKU2 to EP1 installation patch.

Yeah Order of Phoenix. But it was the worst book of the lot, so people wasn't expecting it much. Let's hope the movie turns out good.

Duke87, I enjoyed Harry Potter both on movies and books. As a movie enthusiast I understand that filmmaker must change something due to duration limitation and more importantly, books and movies work differently. Before I watch Goblet of Fire, I was under an impression that its going to be suck, but I see it anyway. How I couldn't be more wrong about my presentiment. It was trimmed, of course, but it was tight, entertaining and fun. I still loved the book better, but the movie are also good in my opinion. And now that someone mentions The Lord of the Ring, I really loved the book, and the movie shows that although Tolkien was a great storyteller, LOTR can never be made to a movie as well as how Peter Jackson and his writer wrote it - simply because it would be confusing to move back and forth in time in the book's fashion. The movie has some technical problem, but from narrative standpoint, I couldn't imagine something better than a combination of the Extended Edition of FOTR and Two Towers with the theatrical version of ROTK.

Sweet! SC4 actually works better with an NVidia chipset, but a 9600 is sufficient enough (I was using them before upgrading to a 6600 and it's pretty good for SC4). Other thing that works well for me is two HD setup - one for SC4 program files and the other for plugins. Not really 2x faster, but still noticeably faster.

Fritz Lang's Metropolis? I wouldn't call that apocalyptic, it's rather an utopian/dystopian vision of the future. Perhaps we need to match the definition in our dictionary. fwiw, although it has some similarities, Osamu Tezuka's Metoroporisu is not a remake of Fritz Lang's silent masterpiece. The anime is taken from a manga while the silent classic is written for a novel. And yeah, I'm in the age range you just mention.

You can always try a CD repair kit (and probably a lens cleaner for your CD/DVD-ROM, they might be dirty but I guess that's not the case). There are some technique to repair CD using home-made appliances (car wax, boiling the CD or such) but if you don't think its worth the trouble, you can always buy a new one.

What do you mean by cubicle? Pixellated? Do you see boxes? pics?

When I start making profit out of a city I usually bring the commercial tax down (I don't zone Industry that much). In one of my CBD the tax for CO$$$ is 4% and CO$$ is 5%. This won't guarantee you anything, but at least it will bring demand a little bit up. More jobs, more people want to move in. The residential taxes stays at 9 however, with R$$$ stuck at 9.5

Titan A.E. is awesome. Well, the energy thing may be just the writer's result of laziness but the movie itself is pure entertainment and I love it from beginning to end. I loved The Day the Earth Stood Still but I'm not sure if it can be described as apocalyptic. Oh well. I don't get Strangelove's humor - which is strange considering I love most other Kubrick film I've seen. Yes, even Barry Lyndon. Now that Strangelove being mentioned, I liked Fail-Safe. It's not perfect but it had its moment. For anime fans, I think Akira are very good.

Network Addon + High Wealth Res = A big no no, apparently
eedoon replied to Tebok's topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
It is a known fact that CO$$, CO$$$ and I-HT only employs a few percentage of R$$$, so sometimes too many of them means there are not enough jobs which will leads to rich people leaving the city. I think it's quite realistic to do so (you might want to read a few threads about R$$$ dilapidation on General Discussion area). The solution that came up so far is to set the tax for R$$$ at 9.5. This will leads to fewer rich people move in, and it means there will be enough job because the majority of employee are R$$. Now the strange thing is, after I set most of my city R$$$ taxes to 9.5, no rich people will move in (which is normal), but CO$$$ job will still increase. There will be more and more office tower rising up while there is no increase in R$$$ population. That is really weird. I'm not blaming NAM at the first place, I think it's Maxis engine that has some strange behavior. But well, I'm just pointing out something that I just found out recently. -

Originally posted by: DOXXP29 Eedoon, I've been using a 5500oc (128mb)Nvidea board and had great performance. This past weekend it died and I replaced it with a 6200oc 256mb board, hoping for an improvement. Unfortunately, it slowed down Simcity noticably! Nothing else was changed except the board. (running an old Gateway 2.0 gig w/712mb RAMBUS ram)quote> iirc the 5500 is a mid-range GPU, am I correct? The 6200 is more like an entry-level GPU so you will experience a slight performance downgrade. My GPU upgrade didn't turn out as well as I expected - I only came up with a vanilla version of 6600, but it improves map scrolling in sc4. Oh well, may be I'll do a full upgrade for my PC sometimes next year.

Yeah. I run practically nothing except for one or two program (I don't even have an antivirus running). If at one time I need to made a system like N_O_Body, I hope I can afford a second PC because I'm one hell of an impatient person.
