We have 2 programmers at the moment but obviously we're constantly hunting for more... It's mostly at its 'Idea's and Discussion' phase anyway so theres no point rushing into things -

Your vision of what Simtropolis 1000 could look like

I've always wanted war to be a disaster option... but that seems almost too complicated to pull off. The good ol' Fire is a must. I got my 'Urbs Urbis' account activated... whoop! lol... whoever came up with that name deserves a cookie...

Jasoncw- I agree to an extent, 3D can end up looking very good... I mean, Company of Heroes is a great example of how highly detailed 3D graphics can get. Yet, on the other hand, you have... well, the majority of most 3D EA games were detail seems to be just a myth. The problem we may have here is the fact that everything is going to have to be done for free... i'd be willing to chip in a few extra

Disappointing things but also very interesting things to see on those screenshots!

^^^Stop me if im exaggerating... but those Buildings looks about as good as the one in SCSoc... and that was 10 years ago! -
I'd always be willing to help, i've learnt about and practised the BAT (i'm assuming that's what your using) extensively since early last month, I guess I know the basics but now I just need some motivation to use it. Too many cooks spoil the broth however... so I don't know if your only limiting the project to the Talented Batters and teams... fair play if you are... who wants a game riddled with rubbish Bat's, eh? lol...

This project is starting to sound really really awesome. BTW... Scipio said '17 views'...whats that... North, East, South, West, Underground, a few zooms (SC4 has 5 or 6, can't remember) what would the others be? Ground level? Birds Eye (Old GTA type)? A ground level view would be great but it would probably lag to hell given the amount of detail this game could possibly have.

sim city new approach and suggestion list
BurroDiablo replied to gstommylee's topic in City-Building Games
I agree, It has the possibility of surpassing all our expectations... all I want from them is the knowledge that Sim City Societies, besides being stripped of most things that make Sim City, won't be unbearably childish and rediculously easy. I also hope they haven't dumbed down the transport options either, I remember Citylife didn't have Railways. I hope Factories still need to ship frieght and commerce still demand Airports, I hope they haven't dropped Buses, Subways and anything else that seemed to make the game 'hard'... if they get rid of all additional transport stuff, they might as well drop the title 'Sim City' because that is NOT Sim City in my eyes. -

Cities should be able to be built atthis kind of scale- That would be epic! -
Misnomer -- could it be we are mistaken?
BurroDiablo replied to schm0's topic in City-Building Games
Yep, i'm not going to accept this is SC5 either... its not like a Sequel, a Sequel always builds on its predecessor, only takes 'unnessesary' things out of the game. I mean, SC2K MADE the franchise by adding Pipe laying, better graphics and a much better interface (compared to SC Classic), SC3K Added Better Graphics, Garbage disposal and the news ticker amoungst plenty of other things and SC4 added... emm... countless new things, but the point is, even with all that new stuff the game never became over complicated and always did the job of pleasing fans. Over the years it only took out the unnessesary things like Connecting each zone up to power, Newspapers (Ticker is much better), and zoning Airports/Seaports... it just seems Will Wrights call for 'simplification' has spun out of control... the next Sim City should have maybe went back to the simplicity of Sim City 2000 BUT never any further! Besides... all recent simcities have had a number after the initial title, 'Societies' just clearly validates the point that this ISN'T a real Sim City its just a spinoff. Roll on 2009... -

Gman55- I didn't say the game was any good, I was merely pointing out thats that what it reminds me of... A Sim City game doesn't need stuff like that because, up untill now, its not been a social simulator and it should have never become a social simulator. I liked that picture however... maybe its because its different to what we've seen already or maybe its becuase that sort of stuff appeals to me... bit of both I think. I've come to terms at how bad the game could be but i'm still willing to give it a chance since its only in its early stages; 6 social 'energies' is VERY few if you ask me... if your lucky, you'll have conquered 5 by the end of the week, leaving 1 for the weekend. -
Ccecil- Whoa... now thats what I call a contrast... I remember some old SC4 screenshots too, there was one where they first implemented the 'dilapidation' of buildings on some old SC3K buildings and it looked awful... but over time, they managed to tweak it to look a little more realistic. I dearly hope SCsoc turns out alot better than everybody thinks, that may be an unlikely situation I theres hope yet for the game if they listen to our needs.

I admit, I loved the Third picture... its starting remind me of Black and White 2 where you actions influenced how you buildings looked and the atmosphere of the game... the contrast between Good and Evil settlements on BW2 was incredible. I for one am still dissapointed with the game but i'll give it a shot anyway, some of the aspects of this game could be very very unique and i'll not going to let it pass by. -
I love this idea... I have no skills, but if your looking for some keen Photoshop Artists or Graphic designers you can always pass a word by me or Mulefisk

Skyfire hit the nail on the head! Although, drawing roads may be a little hard to do, i think a few people have mentioned 'Point to Point' road building... that sounds alot better if you ask me.

I remember in City Life there was 'Drag plopping'... maybe that'll be implemented into the game so suburbs and large industrial zones will be less hassle to build. Either way and I'm sure I speak for the majority here, I prefer Zoning alot more than Plopping... it was tedious and boring in City Life and I can only imagine this will be the same...
-
Marcszar- I know i'm jumping to conclusions but thats just the way I see it. The possibilities of SC4 were practically ENDLESS even without the source code but I can't see that ever happening with SCS. I'm going to be getting SCS however to try it out... I can always take it back to the shops and say its 'broke' if I hate it. I think SCS will need a large community of BATters like on this forum to even live half as long as SC4 has.

I know the feeling LP, Will really needs to focus on his fans in the future and not let EA run wild with any future titles... SimCity or otherwise. I for one was dreading the SC5 announcement ever since I heard it was going to be 'dumbed down', but I thought "They can't dumb it down too much can they...?!"... but, I guess they can. That chat with Dave...whatever his last name was... wasn't very enlightening, he couldn't answer most of the questions asked (EA prolly had a gun to his head) but it did make me feel a little better, they REALLY seem to want to hang on to the fanbase, obviously so they can sell more and please EA (like it was some sort of tribal god)...but this game is going nowhere it seems, i'll be trying the game but not buying thats for sure...

Originally posted by: franconipponophile I wonder if anyone has thought to ask, and I may be wrong, so please forgive me if I am, but will the game be open to mods, bats, etc?quote> There will probably, yes... but they won't be made by the Talented batters from the likes of BSC and NDEX, nope... as far as I know, hardly any talented batters are makingthe switch to SCSoc so its playability is pretty much DOOMED already
