You can get around the ugly high-tension water-crossing power lines over short distances by placing a marina (or several of them in a row). For the power to be transferred, the marina must be within four tiles of a powered building on shore. So long as there is no gap wider than four tiles between the marina and the buildings on either side of the shore, power will be transferred across the water. And it looks, in most cases, nicer than the high tension lines, and raises land value.
