If you use Nuclear Power Plants you run the risk of a Nuclear Meltdown. We all dread seeing those radioactive signs over the land, but you don't have to let it end your city. There are 2 major ways of dealing with a radioactive area.
- Turn entire radioactive area into a forest. You still get the benefits of trees vs. pollution. Also, even if an area is radioactive you can still manipulate the land by raising or lowering it. I like to make a border around the entire radioactive part and raise it so I keep it separate from the rest of the city.
- Did you know industrial areas will develop inside a radioactive zone? Be forewarned though, expect your crime to skyrocket. That's okay, because the radioactive zone is also the ideal place to build police and fire stations, jails, schools, etc., and of course any rewards or opportunities can be placed there as well and function normally. Also, you can build seaports and other transportation items that work normally.
So if it happens to you, play it out. Turn this major disaster into a positive aspect of your city. Good Luck!
