    Reducing damage of disasters (SC3)

    Contributor/author(s): Augustinas Zemaitis

There are ways to reduce damage of disasters.

    Fire

    1. Build more fire stations. If you have more fire stations, you will can dispatch more firefighters. If a forest burns, and you have 0-3 fire stations, the fire will go out of control (an unwatered house or forest tile will burn faster than will be watered building tile).
    2. Build water pipes below the town. This will reduce flammability (there must be water in pipes). Sims want water too, and zones without it will become abandoned.

    Tornado

    1. Start the warning siren when the tornado appears.
    2. After the tornado, use the layer view screen to turn off zoned buildings. Then you will see all destroyed road/railway/electric wires tiles. Rebuild them. Rebuild all destroyed government buildings too if you have the money. There's usually no need to take out a loan after a tornado.

    Earthquake

    1. Enact the Earthquakes Resistant ordinance. Then your buildings will be stronger. Enact it in the start of game.
    2. After the earthquake, use the layer view screen to turn off zoned buildings. Level any terrain you need to. Rebuild all destroyed streets, railways, electricity wires (take out as many loans as you need). Rezone all zones which were dezoned--the terrain has been changed after the earthquake. Do not forget to view pipes and subway screens! They can be destroyed by earthquakes too. Rebuild all pipes, but don't rebuild subway if you don't have money. It is expensive and there's no need to take out loan to rebuild subway. You can rebuild it later. Remove all destroyed government houses, power plants, and facilities. Rebuild them if you need. NOTE: if you have power or water selling deals, stop them after the earthquake quickly! Then view your power plants/water facilities. If one or more of them destroyed, quickly rebuild them and only then run simulation again.

    Riots

    1. Build more police stations.
    2. Dispatch police to riots as fast as possible.
    3. Dispatch firefighters to all burning houses.

    UFO

    1. Set warning siren and pray!

    Nuclear Meltdown (prevention and cures)

    1. Destroy all nuclear plants that in in a tornadoes path!
    2. Destroy nuclear plants that are near riots (this is only for big cities, which have money to rebuild them).
    3. Place nuclear plants far from city. If your city is big and you've had a meltdown, dezone the zones that are under radiation. Build hospitals, jails, education buildings, power plants, incinerators or water facilities here (granted, in real life, the poor inhabitants of these buildings would be exposed to radiation, but this is a simulation!). Don't zone any zones near the radiation. They won't develop.
