Chances are you've found this by accident, but with the BAT updater installed with SimCity 3000, there's a "hidden clock" which can be displayed by clicking any of the open space on the lower right-hand blue console that houses the map. The console is shown at right in the image; the clock is clearly visible. Clicking the blue space again makes the clock go away.
