Build an observatory in SimCity 3000

SimCity gives a lot of choices for visual variety, but as many other contributors have demonstrated – we always want more.

There is no observatory in the program but you can cobble together a good replication of one by using the Power Plants and Landmark menus. You will also melt down your Raise, Lower and Level Terrain tools to get the high ground and a road out.

The closest thing to an observatory is the Adler Planetarium. A good support building is the Broadcasting Building. You could fish about in the building menus for other smaller buildings to personalize your own creation, plus organize your own layouts.

The bonus is the Microwave Power Plants which make good replica radio telescopes. The latter also give you a power source in high country for "Alpine Settlements" while still appearing to be serving another function. This would be a nice visual accent for people fond of high country terrains – or just a little more apparent services to any city.

As they say, when it comes to imagination the sky is the limit!
