Do you have a lot of highways in your city? Well, although they are a great form of transportation, they can look like an ugly scar in an otherwise beautiful city. Do you want to fix that problem? Well, here's my suggestion...
When you place a highway, place normal roads (or avenues, for that matter) on either side of the highway, leaving two tiles of space between the road and the highway. If the highway crosses water, however, do not built road bridges on either side; just re-start the road on the other side of the water. To build a full interchange, build a road between the two roads that are parallel to the highway, passing underneath the highway. Then, place four onramps, two on each side. Finally, the most important part: fill the remaining space between the two roads with the highest density of trees possible. These trees will cause land values on either side of the highway to rise a surprising amount. This is probably the best way that you can make your highways the most beautiful part of your city. Remain consistent! You could leave 3 or more tiles between the roads and the highway, just as long as the amount of space between the roads remains the same along the entire length of the highway.
(P.S.: You may notice that one tile of space is left between the on-ramps and the roads. It's a good idea to use this space for subway stations, bus stops or parks.)
