We all know it is bound to happen to any city no matter how big, or small. No matter how great, or meager. The Great Depression, but what if you could avoid it instead of waiting it out? Here are some tricks to help you out.
- Never let your workforce drop below 72%. When the great depression comes your work force should be high enough to avoid it hitting the 49% mark.
- Keep Watch, if you see your work force starts to dip, zone lots of residential. This has proven to work every time.
- Stir growth (I.E. Drop all taxes, and all ordinances that might drive away polluting industry or ruthless companies) By stirring grow you might be able to know the demand for workers up enough to stir residential growth.
One other general method you can use to avoid getting hit by the Great Depression (submitted by Azizul Ahmad Shafawi) is to decrease the life expectancy of the population. To do this, you just have to tear down all your hospitals and watch your population life expectancy fall, causing the work force percentage to increase. I strongly recommend the ideal life expectancy to be 75, as too low a life expectancy such as 65 will produce excess in manpower and therefore unemployment. After the life expectancy has fallen to 75, pause the game and place just one hospital, and adjust your health care budget to just below the default value. Also repeal the public smoking ban, free clinic and community CPR ordinance (if your personal morality allows you to do so).
