Torbury Mezzo Terminal Opened

**Note: Human Transit Corporation (HTC) system map (effective 1971) is now released! Check out our system map section for the NEW SYSTEM MAP with many exciting new service changes!

The much anticipated Torbury Mezzo Terminal finally opened at 0:00 midnight on February 18, 1962, with the first bus (Route 9A - Huntington TO Ferry Terminal) departing from the terminal at 0:03, three minutes after the terminal opened.

Similarly, the old Torbury Mezzo Loop closed at 23:59 on February 17, 1962. There were security workers escorting passengers across the road to the new Mezzo Terminal. The loop was closed to bus traffic at 23:50, with the last bus departing at 23:52, of Route 4 Promenade Mezzo, which left 8 minutes ahead of schedule.

Figure 2. Torbury Mezzo Terminal (front view) on January 23, 1962, when crews are still finishing some of the interior touch-up works. Notice that there are 8 platforms (2 hid under the bridge), a luxurious waiting area, and a large terminal building. The Park n'Ride lot is also visible here.

Figure 6. Usage of the terminal within the first two days of operation. Usage status is not very impressive, but steadily growing. Notice that Mezzo Loop has completely gone out of service. As of 1971, the terminal is operating at close to 90% capacity.
