Back to the old days! Worsaw in XVI century
Worsaw is an ancient city. Its central island was already inhabited in ancient times and served as a ford and shelter.
It was refounded in 1301 by Leutonic Order and in 1361 by the duke of Volenia as a stronghold,
taking advantage of the island strategic position on the Westela river.
It soon became a commercial center and in 1480 the duke's headquarter was moved here.
As the capital of the small state, the city was to be heavily fortified:
in 1568 the work of the walls and bastions "alla moderna" begins and part of the river is diverted to serve as a moat.
Only a century later the city became the capital of the united kingdoms of Volenia and Polimia, but this is another story..Happy Holidays!!
