The region's first railroad was constructed in 1846 and it contiued to expand in the 19th century. The railroad was an opportunity for population and economic growth in the city. The railroad transfers cargo from the Bochit River to other cities and towns throughtout the nation. Since the railroad, the city has experienced tremendous population growth.
