Downloading lots

    Hi,

From the BSC Mac Archive, I got the Safeway and Dennys lots by GasCooker.

In his instructions, he's got all sorts of sub-directories where to put stuff etc. However, I read that as long as the files are SOMEWHERE under the plugin directory, SC4 will pick them up.

So, I put the essential one directly in the plugin directory as specified, but just created a GasCooker (or SimGoober?? I can't remember) directory and put everything in there.

It seems to work OK, because the ploppables show up and can be placed. I haven't seen any growables yet though. Am I doing anything wrong? Do I need to follow the sub-sirectory hierarchy specified?

On a related note: Is there any way to tell what growables the game actually has at it's disposal? It would be nice to verify that growables are there after downloading, and just need the right conditions to appear.

    Thanks.

With those lots, you're not REQIUIRED to use the suggested folder paths, HOWEVER...

2 things, first, as you start adding more downloads to your plugin folders, the organization is very helpful, SECOND, there are certain files that MUST be placed in certain folders, for example, the "Essentials.dat" files must be placed directly in the plugins folder, not any sub-folders. Another example is the BSC Farm Expansion Pack, which needs to be placed as instructed in the BSC Mac Archive thread, because of various dependencies needing to be in certain places.

For general information on plugin folder organization, specifically for Macs, check out the Omnibus article (is it up yet), and the BSC Mac Archive thread, especially early on, when I gave pretty specific instructions, and tried to explain why, might not make sense at first, but there is a method to the madness, and keeping things neat and using the specified paths can help ensure that problems/conflicts (such as missing textures, custom queries, etc.) don't happen.

As to growables, the way to tell a growable lot is the prefix to the lot, for example, with the Denny's the growable lot starts with "CS$$2_3x3...." which means Commercial Services, Medium Wealth, 3x3 lot size; the ploppables won't have the "CS$$." You can choose what lots you want to put in, in the Denny's, there are 3 versions, 1 growable, 2 plops, you can use any and/or all of them, the building, query, etc are in the .dat file so that is always needed.

    Hi,

    Thanks very much.

I think everything is working OK and the growables are fine. I put all the different versions of a lot in.

For example, I downloaded the IKEA lot and had 10 of them grow in my latest city :-)

Again, thanks very much for the answer and the information you provide to help us Mac users out.

    Cheers.

But how can you choose which lots you want?, I have loads of UK lots and want to place them where I like to save time and make it more realistic, however some are not plopable, how can I change this?
