    I saw a lot of posts here related to issues with freight traffic congesting roads they really should be on, for example, because they should be using the train etc.
    My personal solution to this problem I thought has kinda simple and i was suprised to find no posts regarding this idea...It works perfectly in the city I made, and completely seperates all commuter traffic from fright traffic in a big industral section in the middle of my city.
    Just use one way roads. Pedestrians can walk the wrong way down a one way road so if you are using mass transit the commuters are completely unaffected.
    The residential neigborhood enters the industrial section via a 2 way road when they are further from a city exit and a 1 way road goes from the industrial section to a city exit on the other side, without going thru any residential areas so commuters dont get confused. It could also be a 1 way street to a freight train if you want to do it that way.

    I guess u would want an example but I cant really figure out how to put pictures here lol, sorry...it depends on the relative positions of the edge and the industrial but theres usually some way, an thingy i did looked like this:

    |cuiii|iii||iiiiii | iiiiuc|           u = road is 1 way up, r = 1 way right, L = left
    |cuiii|iiiPiiiii I iiiu c|          | = road is 2 way
    |rrrrrr|rrFLL I LLL  |         i = industry, c = commercial, r = residential
    |cccuc||ccucc| c |          || = tracks
    |RR uRPRuR | R |         P=pass rail station, F= freight rail station
           |
          \ /  A road connection to border is this way
    Ug...this is impossible to follow, but if u understand I simply force it so that industry would have to take a very cicuitous route to avoid the freight station. the workers only have to take this route in the evening and it really would only effect the ones who decided not to go to work via rail...You can also theoretically greatly control the amount of traffic your commercial sectors get but I still only get low traffic for some reason, I dunno why

    You should download the no trucks tool. It's a plop that goes over a road or an avenue and prevents trucks from travelling past it but it still allows sims to travel as normal. I use it extensively around my industrial parks to funnel traffic either onto rail, highways or some other planned route out of town. It's really a great little tool.

    There is another mod that is also useful in dealing with freight. It allows freight to ship by rail to another freight station and then switch to truck again. It comes in handy if you want to send freight by rail to a seaport (something that can't be done with vanilla Sim City).

    My industrial areas tend to be near the edge of the map, mostly to mitigate the pollution, but a side benefit is that the freight trucks have short trips out of town. I've also found the NAM makes the trucks far more likely to use a highway if one's available. There's also the No Truck mod, which I've used sometimes to great effect. I'll have to check out that freight station to freight station mod. I have this really robust, overbuilt rail network that's not being used anywhere near capacity because the industries aren't shipping by rail to the seaport.
