Has anyone any good advice in how to connect elavated rail and ordinary rail networks. Try as i might i can't run one into another. Are they totally removed from each other?

Can anybody also help me with the difference between the two. Is ordinary rail better at some things and elavated rail better at others.

ta in advance >..<

As far as I know, ground rail cannot be connected to elevated rail. However subways can be connected to elevated rail, probably because they use the same track gauge.

Ground rail can carry both freight and passengers (depending on the stations you build), while EL can only carry people. EL is obviously better to put in areas filled with roads or avenues, since the railroad crossings created by ground rail increases congestion.

that linked didn't work, but there is a lot on the stex that you can switch between ground rail and Elavated rail. search ground rail on the stex. you'll find it

Use a mod on the stex that allows you to connect regular rail to GLR. Then connect GLR to elevated rail. I thought everybody knew that.

I have no problem using the Ground-Elevated rail transition.

It works fine.

I created a lot that connects GLR and Ground Rail. It also allows UDI for Passenger Trains, if you have the NAM installed and if you have saved and restarted the city since you plopped the lot.

I have not had the time to fully test this lot.  Perhaps some one would like to do this for me.

I stole the techniques from Tropod’s Ground Rail 2 Elevated Rail Transition lot. (You can drive UDI Passenger Trains through Tropod’s lot if you have the NAM and you save and restart the city after plopping it.)

Note:

All UDI Ground Rail trains can transition to Elevated Rail because the NAM adds Ground paths to the Elevated Rail Tracks, but I chose to block Freight Rail.

UDI Elevated Rail trains can not transition to Ground Rail because Ground Rail tracks do not have the paths to permit it.

Traffic will work both ways because the lot converts Elevated Rail traffic to Ground Rail traffic, and visa versa.
