i have searched all over the forum to see how to do this and the few times i found a link it was dead. (not yet reloaded)

i am trying to download the zurich simplified region from stex. the promlem i keep getting is that the bitmap is only 16x16 and it needs to be like 1024x1024 or something close to that.

since i cant make the bitmap grow how do i create a new 1 in paint?
i read it on here a long time ago but i forgot the directions. something about view has to be 600 tims magnified and add a grid and use green red and blue?

im completely lost please help.

thank you
roy

Sounds more like the Config.bmp, not the region file. And the Config.bmp is supposed to be that small size.  The Config.bmp file only controls how the region is laid out - city sizes and locations.

You may have only downloaded the Config, bmp file and not the main region file, which is usually a .jpg.

^ Exactly. You need both files: the greyscale .jpg file (the actual map) and the config.bmp.

In the config.bmp, each pixel represents a small city tile. A 16x16 bitmap therefore represents a region with the size of 16x16 small city tiles, which doesn't mean that there are only small city tiles in that region though. .'Small city tiles' is just the 'unit'. Blue 4x4 squares stand for large, green 2x2 squares for medium and red 1x1 squares for small city tiles.

Now proceed as described >here<.

You don't have to. The greyscale images have to be that big (one pixel there represents one tile in the 'mayor mode' +1). So that's fine.

After saving the config.bmp into your region folder (e.g. 'Zurich'), start SC4 and press 'ctrl' + 'alt' + 'shift' + 'r'. A file browser opens where you can choose from appropriate files. Choose your .jpg (which in this case is 1025x1025 big) and wait. Now the game starts to render the map, which can take a while. But read MallowTheCloud's thread (link in my previous post), it's very well described there.

    Good luck.

thanks but i tried it a dozen times. you cleared up that the grey scale needs to be that big for me but i have downloaded a couple regions and some render fine while others do nothing or give me that error. i even let it sit for a few hrs while i went shopping and came back to nothing. brokenheart.gif

If the jpg map is not 8-bit or is the wrong size, it won't render properly. The Landscape Designer tool has options in its file menu to fix such maps. The tool is here.
