  • Hello, here is a quick walkthrough of how i make my elev. rail and monorails thriving with people, first, take a city that is strugling with people not using monorails and elev. rail, but that has lots of overloaded roads.

    To make your transport systems thriving with activity, simply replace the roads that connect ind., comm., and res., with monorail or elev. rail stations then connect them. The whole benifit of this is that you will gain money for people riding public transport and that more people can go to where they need to go without rush hour traffic backing them up, because monorails and elev. rail has way more capacity than roads. Another benefit is that due to the capacity of the transport, you won't have to have roads going absolutely everywhere, also giving you more space for res., comm., and ind. areas to be established.

    This is certainly one way to go about it, but in my opinion, advanced planning is the best option. You can try to predict traffic flow by factoring considerations like workplaces (C zones tend to create massive traffic due to their high capacities) and especially the residential to workplace distance. The pathfinding engine is overly simplistic in that sims will always travel the shortest distance, even if it means using a road with 8000 cars in it (as opposed to real life in which people look for the shortest commute TIME by using alternate routes and such). Also, your proposed scheme might not be optimal for residential zones with lots of R
