    My Proposal

Attention: Simmars team members and any ST members and modders interested.

    My idea is this:

Modify the Styles menu pop-up from what it is, to something like my image below.

    BEFORE
    real-sty-pop2e.jpg

    AFTER
    mod-st-pop1q.jpg

All I ever do, when I see that toggle building styles window is; find myself wishing there was many more choices. I mean, how logical and easy, should that be? It seems to make good sense to me; When I want to have cobblestone lanes and 16th century cottages; I just hit Medievel style and viola, all my medieval buildings and LOTs begin to grow and my road and aves would somehow need to change automatically, as well...hmmmm. then when I grow tired of that, choose SimFuture or Chicago styles.

anyways. yes, I am very interested in SimFuture. I do know that Pmiller(Lynks) is still trying to finish up on SimMars. Me as well, but getting any help seems futile. I even tried asking some friends at other web communities, with no luck. Anonymous others, have also voiced their opinion; how SimMars has a lack of appeal, to other members of the community. Those who have DL'ed SimMars, feel it changes the game too much and want more control over switching out modds and also less drastic changes in game play. This also has built SM's reputation as a do not bother installing game modd...IMO anyways.
I can understand their point of view though; SimCity4 and it's very personal, creative capabilities, have helped this game become, very closely connected with it's fan base. I have noticed, that this has also carried over, into ST's ambience and community interaction.
We are all passionate about familiar utensils, that help us create on a familiar canvas, the image that our minds eye wishes to display, so to speak.
ahemmm, in other words, do not interfere with the core game, because the sitizens hate that!
However, I and a few others I know of; really wish for more building style variety. The most logical next choice would be Simfuture style buildings, with the toggle of a button. A class and or style change only. This may allow much of SimMars' props, buildings, etc., to be converted over, with ease. This also allows us to keep our NAM and all it's existing content, at least in the beginning. That is the beauty of toggling styles only. We only have to start adding the LOTs to get it off the ground and a near immediate release. later, as time allows, we can add hover cars, or more technological stuff like magnetic roadway, or a slightly altered NAM? Just dreaming here, not anything I know alot about. I am just a graphic artist and not much on code related things.

I can make textures and props for  such projects and the fun part is I can add them as I make them, to an already existing game mod. Each LOT would have to show up in it's intended style slot, is all that would be necessary,... I hope anyways.

Please let me know, all you expert modders; is this possible? And if so; can we change the SimMars forum, to a more appropriate Forum: The Styles Modd Forum, as a whole. It could then include many sub threads for each Modd Style, being worked on.42.gif

I would greatly appreciate any help from Simmars team members, past and present. Lets attempt, to make Styles available, for a vast array of new ideas?!

I'm very happy to see this idea become a reality as long as you, or at least someone knows how to do it. 44.gif

Date: 2/13/2006 12:38:22 PM Author: Andreas Roth Well, modding the UI shouldn't be that hard, but as far as I know, we cannot add new building styles to the game. This would require modifying the EXE, which is not possible.

That's what I was afraid of. Thanks for replying Andreas. I still have faith, that a SimFuture Modd will most definitely draw community attention.

    SimFutureModd proposal still open.

I am asking for volunteers. We can start a new Group/team like BSC, but we could be called SFC.

EDIT: We can finish the Simmars. I still would love to see BATs/LOTs that are In the future. Should I move this to the BAT Discussion Forum?42.gif
