I read a very good comparison of a P4 to an AMD processor. P4s can do more bigger tasks faster, whearas AMDs can do smaller calculations faster, but ultimately suck at bigger ones. Get an intel chip because it is better to handle bigger calculations first and then smaller ones after. and never ever by an nvidia card.

Source? Sounds like an interesting article. And why no nVidia?

Edit: I Googled a few seraches, and every page I read said the opposite, actually. Which makes sense, once you think about it. Intel performs much more calculations per second than AMD, but it is far less efficient. Link to one article .

MayorTim is correct. AMD is much more efficient at completing tasks. Hence why AMDs flagship CPU, the FX-60, runs at 2.8GHz, while Intels flagship runs at 3.8GHz, I believe.

I've upgraded the power supply on my Hewlett-Packard Media Center PC, added a graphics card, and put in more RAM and I haven't had one problem with it. Don't have any idea what everyone does to get Hewlett-Packard/Compaq to hate them so much.

Hmm... well, my friend's got an E-Machine, and he HATES it. It freezes constantly, he can't logon to other accounts, and it's got a very glitchy graphics card. I woulden't recommend getting one. Go with Dell instead.

ooooooooo, I love PC debates! I've bought an e machine in the past, and I returned it due to lack of.....sound, video and performance. They have no reputations, either.

An E-machine to me is not worth getting. why? My sister has one and well here is what happend...

When we first got it it worked good but a couple months latter it couldn't start up. So my dad put a disk to restart it. It worked, but last year it stopped. You turn on the computer and it wouldn't really do much, it came to a point you can't see see the desktop picture. It was black and nothing was up. At this point I thought a virus caused a problem, but it wasnt a virus.

My advice is to buy a Dell. I like Dells. Infact so far it works good and I am satisfied with it. My 2nd choice is to get Apple G5's. I use it at school and its awsome. The teacher in that class can block your screen and take control of your mouse, as well take a screen shot of what your doing.

But if you want an affordable computer, try Dell. E-machines are like 50/50. 50% of the time they work, the other 50% of the time they don't. face-icon-small-confused.gif
