Project: Mountain Transport way (rope ways)

A few days ago I made some experiments with el rail transit enabled lots (an existing el rail station lot). I did a custom prop (a rope) on this lot and then tested it ingame.

And yes The train got over the ropes still visible 44.gif.
Yes yes a rope way gondola don't drive over the ropes 2.gif
But someone could make a gondola that drives under the ropes. Should be possible .

Here is a picture of the try out with the existing station lot:

revolution.jpg

Problems:
---If I used a blank lot and made it transit enabled with all the transit I/O properties etc. I could not build it. The lot appeared not in the park menu (Try out version is in park menu currently).
8.gif
And if I don't make the I/O properties the train can't get through the lot.

Possible solution:
---Using again an existing el rail station lot and then making that the train don't stop in the lot. But where is the property that sets stopping or not 42.gif
Or must I define the lot as a park lot then? But how ?

I know there are some professionel light rail or el rail modders here. I hope that project will be realised one day 5.gif

Now I try out ways to make that lot working right.

And: If this works the lot may must be one part and this means it gets very long. Because building slope conforming lots together on a hill will give a destroyed rope way.14.gif

mayspacy: you've just given me a REALLY interesting idea.

AFAIK, I can make a custom automata that looks like a gondola, set to drive on EL-tracks. Then, I can hook it up with a custom script, and make a station lot that spawns it.

The only downside would be that you'd have to create a new puzzle piece for the mountainside.

But this way, you could have completely seperate networks of EL-rail and gondolas, in the same city, without any interference on either network!

[:0] That would be great if you can do that. Or do it with the monorail. The el rail is used often for city networks. Monorail not.

    But what you mean with:

    But thank you 44.gif

wow.  this is an amazing idea that i had actually had as a fleeting thougth the other day when i was thinking about the possiblity of making a peg-style ski resort... with terrain conforming squares of snow and snow covered pines on a snowy floor... so you could plaster a mountain with ski slopes and have a couple different lodges, like a base lodge with pro shop and a summit lodge and a few plop-a-props like snow maker machines and boundary markers... but what made me give up the idea would be the complexity of having ski lifts (which of course made me think of gondolas...)

but now that ardecila has pointed out how simple it would be (not that i could do it, but how incredibly possible it really is) i may revive the idea.  Have the same cable-style puzzle pieces (i would need help with editing the NAM, that is for sure) and 2 different automa spawning stations one for a gondola and one for a ski-lift... the gondola station actually would need transit enabling as it would be a great idea for having a city in the mountains... but the ski lift wouldn't really give valuable stats, just spawn ski-lift automa

i'm gonna have to sleep on that one.

Sorry, but this is a relatively old thread, perhaps it has been deleted already.
