Future city compition is something that i did this year. it is a copition for 7-8 graders. They work in teams of2-5. First use simcity 3000 to get engineering ideas. Then they compile the info they learned into a abstract essay(enrgy, transportation, commmercal, industry), soil analisis essay( in cludes water quality and soil contamenats) and a large model that shows a part of thier city. Then they create a speech and go to state reginols. they show the model to the juges and first place goes to dc were they could win laptops, a trip to space camp and more. htey dont just leave with prizes, they leave with an awsome experince44.gif
ill show pics of my modell soon

That sounds a great idea, if only the uk would do something like that. not even architecture students can do something like that. the msot I got was to masterplan a Brownfield site (contaminated site that had a anotehr use before) of which i convrted into residential areas, comercial shops and a large public space with restaurants etc. The furthest it got was to do a presentation to contractors on why they should big for it, i would ahve liked to have done a presentation to the planners etc. we would ahve got far better feedback than the usual cost issues from the contractors.
