ever spend hours working on a problem that has stupidly simple solution?

I have a city that was powered by a single solar plant.  Later on as needs increased I simply started buying from a northern neighbor.  At a certain point, I had holes all over my power grid, even though on graph view I had double capacity from what I needed.  So, I jacked up the power from a neighbor even though, just to see if it helped.  The capacity of course increased, but I still had unpowered regions in my grid.

After hours of abandoned buildings (10 years game-time) and my population plummeting from 105,000 to 73,000, I finally noticed...my city wasn't actually CONNECTED to the neighbor I was buying power from!  A power line cut down into my city, but after destroying a school to rebuild elsewhere, it was no longer connected to the grid!  I ran a single power line and VOILA!  No more power holes.

 

Ever do this?  Look for all these solutions and gloss over the simplest answer?

HAHA YES!!  And power/water are the most notorious ones... oh well I guess we just gotta get smarter...
