Commute abandonment issues

I have some problems with commute time on one side of my city.

Heres whats going on. My city is split into 2 sides on a river. On the left side is where I started to build my city in the beginning. Everything is great, no abandonment, no jobs missing, anything like that. Anyways as I fill out the left bank of the river. I decide to go ahead and invest some money on the right side and do what I normally do:
I setup some industry area and let it build up. Then made some houses for people to move in close to the neighborhood and some commercial zones near them as well for shops and jobs. Well as time goes by I notice that tons of people are leaving their houses on the right because of commute time.

For some reason they aren't going to commercial or industrial zones close by, infact they aren't even trying. So i thought maybe the people on the left bank were for some reason going across the river for those jobs over here even though they have plenty on the left side. So i destroyed the bridge linking the 2 and it only got worse. It seems both sides somehow started to rely on jobs from the opposite sides and abandonment went rampant on the right. Even some abandonment happened on the left which I havent even seen in 50 years of sim-time.

Any thoughts? I am completely stumped on what to do. I don't want to have to resort to demolishing the ENTIRE right side and start over again.

What if you keep your residential on one side of the river and add some commercial areas to it, and leave the other side only for industrial. Then maybe you could put in some busses on each side of the river, and maybe even some under river tunnels (avenue or highway maybe to allow for later expansion). Also make some networks directly from the industrial area straight out of the city so that the trucks go out this route instead of clogging up the commuter roads.

Most likely the issue is R$$ & R$$$ not being able to find jobs. You have to deteremind what wealth of the residents that are moving out and try to address their needs.

Education raises the demand for jobs that pay more. You can also raise taxes on R$$ and R$$$ to control their growth some.

Well I can only make a good city when I have a river to work with. Ferry systems for me are l33t. However your problem may be that your trapping different income's in where they cant get a job. If you havent built a way to connect them like a Car&Passenger Ferrry or a bridge then its very typical. However if you have a bridge/ferry and things are still going to $%&^!, Id suggest making sure your avenues are working correctly. Ex: Avenues that connnect to a neighbor city need a road as a turn around or people will abandon due to commute times. ex9gd.jpg

And if youve done all that then rebuild your roads ?7.gif

Oddly, different wealth levels favor particular arrangements. I've had situations where (see some other threads on this issue...) the weathly will be right next to a CO$$$ which has no workers, but will not go to work there.

Trying to figure out the cause, I am.

Probably you have no Mass Transit System Supplies in that prt of your city, or the demand are negative for ne type of industry (dirty) and good for the other one (manufacturing)
