Okay, even though I see a few threads devoted to specific shows here and there I don't see lots of them cluttering Off-Topic.  With the 100th episode & a promised, yet supposedly secret, major casting change coming up I wanted to discuss Smallville w/ anyone else who likes the series.

I didn't watch the show until the second year b/c I thought it was going to simply be about Superman going through teen angst.  I did pop in during the episode with Christopher Reeves where the focus was on the sci-fi and the mystery aspect of Clark Kent's origins and I've been hooked ever since.

There's a certain soap opera and cliff hanger aspect to this show I find addicting, just like Lost, 24, or even the new BattleStar Galactica.

I can ignore the gushy parts between Clark and Lana Lang.  But it really has fun trying to figure how Clark as a regular yute ultimately becomes the Man of Steel.  He's not nearly so geeky as is often protrayed, he's still uneasy about his powers, and he gets defensive when others, even including Lana, starts asking about the original meteor shower that brought him to Earth.  That makes him more of a three dimensional person than a simple icon.  This show makes it clear that no matter when Superman finally arrives he'll always be Clark Kent first.

Also it's fun seeing what finally turns Lex Luthor into the real bad guy.  Here, he is nice, root-for-able, guy who sometimes lets his ambition and relationship with his father overcome the best in him.   I think I'm going to hate it when he turns into the villian for real.

We get the answer how Lois Lane never figures out Clark's other identity; she simply has no expectations whatsoever of Clark Smallville Kent.  She doesn't care for reporting as a profession right now either!  Insert src=https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/6.gif width=15 border=0>

In this series, while it's not quite an ensemble, other characters play major roles in how the story unfolds, including Clark's parents and Lex's evil corporate magnate father, Lionel Luther.

The commercials at first suggested Clark's adopted father, Jonathan Kent,  was going to die & even faked us out a couple of weeks ago.  They're now suggesting it's Lana who will die during episode 100.  Her death would progress the story further.  But so would the death of good friend Chloe Sullivan, whom I never heard of the in the original tales, who is a reporter and the cousin to Lois.  But for those of us who are now hooked, we'll soon see!Insert src=https://www.simtropolis.com/idealbb/images/smilies/9.gif width=15 border=0>

I watch Smallville periodically and I like most of the episodes and I wish I was watching it more consistently. I have actually met John Glover and my mother met him in the bank and cashed his check(although she never knew it was actually him until later :P). He's one of the few famous people from my hometown.

I really wonder who is going to be whacked soon cause I figure that this show's been on long enough for them to start killing off some of the characters.

Did anyone see last nights episode cause I missed it.

    100th episode thoughts:

Without giving away spoilers, the second of the three I thought most likely to die was the unfortunate one.  The weird Groundhog Day plot left me feeling empty instead of cathartic at the end though.  Looking back, the ending to the episode actually did seem to be inevitable, but I also think it will continue to perpetuate the same soap operific plot lines of this version of the Superman story as much as it will supposedly change Clark.
