Do you have accsess residential space like houses not being filled fully or open lots because until you get all of those filled up demand....well there wont be any demand21.gif

its all about supply and demand

I zone residential.. and then nothing builds. I have plenty of demand and have tried laying down lots of parks, etc. The city will go through a spurt where a little bit will develop, then quit. I have a good region to support growth. All of my other cities are growing pretty normally.

Do you have difficulty set on easy becasuse if you have it on medium or hard then the game automatically reduces the need for demand.

    Hello Ryan,

First - Are you looking for new construction? Some of the bigger buildings take a few months to complete construction.  Sometimes the simulator will hold off on further development while construction on a highrise is still in progress.  Did you know - with the start of highrise development - the simulator will allow demand to build (or watch for a minimum level to be maintained) before starting another highrise? - see below for clues on what the simulator might be up to while you're waiting.

Second - is all your residential property already developed? It takes longer for the simulator to build bigger if large (2x4 to 5x5) empty lots are not available; and still longer if there are smaller lots to be developed first.

Is it already developed? I said I zone, and nothing develops or builds.

I assume you have checked the new area is supplied with power?

My game had a strange glitch a couple of days ago, I added a new section to my city. It had powerlines, the map said it was powered but when I queried the zones (that were not developing) it said they had no power. I had to dezone and re-zone that section again to fix it.

Water also can be a problem. I keep forgetting to add water pipes to my new areas, and they won't develop if the rest of the city has water, until they are given water. I think the sims sulk if they haven't got what all the others have.

I have had this problem before. Do you have any parks?

The sim starts with a cap of 50,000 people that can live in any given city. The way to raise this cap is by adding parks and other amenities (the minor league park alone raises this cap by 200,000). There is a similar cap on commercial.

I have had this problem twice before, and both times I sprinkled some things like basketball courts and parks around, and suddenly the unused residential zones shot up like Roman candles.

Softball fields raise the cap by 7,000. Soccer fields by 5,000 or 6,000. The tennis courts are 4,000 each, and a basketball court raises by 1,000. Most of the 1x1 plops raise the cap by 250 or 750.

Education structures, health structures, and fire and police structures do NOT raise this cap, even though they increase demand.

I sympathize with you, I've had many a beautiful city stop growing as well. If you are open to cheating unlock some rewards that help residential caps and place 'em. It should help.

Ok. My demand for residential is positive on every category. I have plenty demand for commercial and industrial also. All of a sudden, my city just stops growing. Everything will grow except residential. Every now and then, a spurt will happen, and some stuff will grow.

It is killing me! This has happened once before in another city.. I just quit playing it. I am at like 65k, and it has been doing it for a while. And most of the new population is from a new tower or two of the $ residential towers which hold like 2000 people.

You do not need to resort to cheats!

Here's a simple trick I use when my cities refuse to build on newly zoned land:

Plant lots of trees on that newly-zoned land. Yup, it's that simple. Trees will temporarily raise the desirability of that land, and that will kick-off a housing boom. The houses will demolish the trees, but once a few homes start to build it will encourage others.
