Hi,

Working on my first city, I have placed my industry far (enough) away from my residential areas.

Bu my industrial area still has so much air pollution, I constantly get messages like your people have to wear gasmasks when going to work

Now I still have many dirty industry (my city is 40y old, and education is rising not so quickly as I would like) and a coal power plant.
currently I am hitting the power cap of the plant, so I add a natural gas plant, which are more environment friendly.

Is there an other (non cheater) way to reduce air pollution except planting trees??

My residential area is all well, few polution whatsoever, due to the many trees I've used.
But the trees aren't exactly working in my industry. (Guess there's just tooo much pollution there)

I am soooo tired of those messages every month about the pollution levels.

There is a water treatment plant in the game, bu where in the menu can I find an air treatment plant????

Godd question. I would suggest plopping recreational areas near the Industry, as these could increase the land value. Also, don't hesitate to reduce High-Tech Industry taxes, becasue I feel that the default level of 9% sounds very high. Also, try building a railway and make a neighbour connection, so to encorage the Industry to use railways.

The thing about pollution is, that without railways, they always would always use freight truck, which contributes to more air pollution.

Well, there is a structure in STEX called the Ionic Fusor or someting. It should decrease your air pollution, for it has an air filter, tough I'm pretty sure there are other buldings too.

EDIT: Then again, there's the clean air ordiance, but it is very ineffective.

What you should is place a lot parks around your industry and pollution should go down.

I zone my industry in small patches inside the city itself. You need a buffer zone dirty and res. but once you get to manufacturing zone res in the buffer and, with trees (they make the city look good and reduce pollution, no drawback!) and even in my larger cities with about 40k industrail jobs my pollution can sometimes be 0.8 on the graph! good luck44.gif

    sounds logical ...

I am indeed planning to place some industry inside the city itself, just to decrease commuting time, since it is way too long, and my roads to the industry areas are traffic jammed.  (one way roads, and still they turn red ...)

Next time I will also try to zone smaller industrial areas.

But hey, it's my first city, and I have made some mistakes until now :

    • My bridge is too long (placed the island on the other side too far away) so commute time increases
    • I have not placed my initial roads in such a way that they could be extended for mass use. (only place for one tile roads...)
    • I had placed my water pump inside the industrial zone. result was a shutdown due to pollution.
    • It was better to leave the initial residential zones at low density, because of the roads, instead of getting them to medium and high density.

Next time I will spread out a little more to cover expansion ...

You could put the industrial area in a neighbouring city to your residential and commercial areas, since air pollution doesn't cross city borders. Then connect the residential to the industrial by passenger rail so that sims can get to work quickly. That way your residential areas will stay nice and clean, and you can fill the industrial area with trees if you wish, but its not really necessary.

    I use this Gem -

BlackHole water tower - costs 400 a month, produces some water and chews water and air polution. Is it a little like cheating? Perhaps, but in my opinion it is not radical. It does have maintenance, stats, and it friggin works great, sims don't care if I cheat a little, btw I think the games polution and garbage deal is skewed anyhow so - sh|t happens.

    Hmmmm
How come R-$ is always the antagonist in this game. To get the full feel fot the game, you need some low wealth, some middle wealt, and some high wealth. Maxis tries to make it so the
    low wealth= bad
    high wealth= good
downloading some terrace houses that create better looking low wealth housing is a good idea, this allows you to take all of your attention away from is the industry far away enough to other parts of the game.

If you enjoy high wealth, try zoning low wealth around your dirty industry so the poor people can get to their jobs easily and they will all clump up and not infest your city with apartment blocks.

The enviroMENTAL advisor is really a glitch in the game. She always complains. I can never get her to shutup. She complains about pollution when there is nothing to complain about. So, I just ignore her. I suggest you do the same
