My name is Lavrentij Vaslov. Son of Mikhail Vaslov a prominent member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. I was sent by my father, to build up and industrialize a rural area. Starting some iron mining and exports to the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic via the nearly Grodno region.

Luckily, I will get some help from my father, providing me with many of the basic needs, water supply, fuel, electricity and he will also see to the delivery of materials from Grodno, but we will of course have to pay for those. He will also guarantee a trusted supply of inhabitants with a respectful attitude towards the Communist Party and our projects.

Editorial: Since I don't have the patience for the comprehensive tutorial and campaign. I want to start with a relatively easy setup. The game can (and should) be played on "realistic" so you have to produce everything yourself, or transport it from a border station. Vehicles need fuel, buildings need heating and electricity, farming needs fertilizer, roads need asphalt factories, buildings need concrete, and so on. But I need to run a few test scenarios to understand it first. To show the original game, this play-through has no workshop items.

My first task was to lay out the construction of some residential buildings, first we build two smaller houses for 10 families each to house the construction workers, then a larger residential building for up to about 50-60 families. Right now, 145 people live in our village. Vlasovskoye Selo Iron Mine is producing its first iron ore.

The workforce so far was living from whatever they brought from their home republic. Definitely not a sustainable situation. Construction of the most important needs for the workforce began, a small shopping center, school and kindergarten.

The train depot was relocated further away from the village center, a small healthcare facility was built at its previous location. Also, a cultural community center was erected near the village center. Some fountains were constructed, bushes and trees planted. Attempting to lift the spirits of our hard-working comrades

After spending some time with my family back in Moscow, I am now on a new task of founding a community in a rural area near Lake Jawole. At first building a fuel station near the borders and laying out some dirt roads, with my small group of trusted helpers, paid directly by my father. I bought an oil tanker in nearby Camennari City, and started to fuel our depots, before getting the first construction vehicles

This is not going from easy – highest settings. Now I use all gameplay elements making construction and everything else mush more complicated, but still with easy starting money and easy workforce (more happy faces), to make room for a lot of mistakes.

The first construction machines began to arrive in Jawole about 10 days after I came here. Ready to fuel up and go back to Camennari, to collect the construction supplies we ordered.

    VsF00qc.jpeg

26 days later the first machinery arrived at the actual construction site and began groundworks. A 24-ton Byelorussian BZ-252 dumper and a Soviet 11-ton Э-10011Д excavator.

It is now more than two months since we started. The assembly of the first residential building is underway and we have almost finished a gravel road from Camennari to Jawole, speeding up all transport times significantly.

The first residential building was occupied by the pioneers of what was to become Jawole City exactly 4 months after my project began. The living conditions were of course very primitive, almost like in the 19th century, no electricity, sewage or water supply. But they all received a "personal" acknowledgment from First Secretary of the Communist Party Nikita Khrushchev, and was part of the propaganda surrounding the project. Work ethic was at its highest, just as it should be among the proud workers of the Soviet Union.

Some basic needs are now taken care of, a small food shop distribute some food to the community, water tanks supply water. Garbage, wastewater and excrement are removed by a technical service. But the number of people getting sick with little healthcare, is disturbing. Several babies have died and some families simply disappear during nighttime, afraid of their life. Starvation is quite common. We need to get more and better infrastructure fast.

    dvuiTQN.jpeg

It is now late summer, 7 months after the project started. Construction of a power plant is the main focus now. With no power during winter, we will lose the remaining pioneers. We can continue only with the expensive imported workers we can drive in from Camennari City, but that would be a disaster for my personal reputation. Moscow would not like to hear that we lost hundreds of loyal families in Jawole, especially if the news spread to the west.

The last 8 pioneers of the Jawole project were allowed to leave the area in November, temperatures were minus 7°C and several people died the previous night. I was ordered by Moskow to come home. The entire project was cancelled. Due to my father’s intervention, I was not arrested. Instead demoted to logistics assistant, for engineer and architect Vladimir Miletski. Currently working on a hospital building in Moskov. I had learned a lot, but maybe the price was too high.

While Vladimir Miletski was still working on the hospital building in Moskov, I was sent to a region some 10 km from the city of Piedansk. Equipped with a clear plan from Miletski. I was supposed to build up the necessary infrastructure needed to create another Piedansk suburb. Electricity, sewage system, water supply, heating, roads and later shops, schools, healthcare ect. With clear orders to use workers living in Piedansk, not to repeat previous mistakes. Most of the first year passed and the construction of the initial town center can begin in the near future.

In the middle of November the winter set in, with heavy snowfall most days. The construction slowed down due to the slippery roads. We bought three snowplows from Piedansk, it helped a lot, but was of course not able to keep the snow of the roads, everywhere and all the time.

I spent my second Christmas in the construction village near Piedansk. It was cold, but beautiful and frosty, in the quiet, almost dead suburb. The building sites was almost silent, you could only hear the snowplow in the distance. Most of the workers was sent home to their families and also Vladimir Miletski was in Moscow with his wife and children.

The inauguration of the Vladimir Lenin statue, at Vladimir Lenin square at the 1st of July, signaled the official opening of the new suburb. Named Petrovna, after Nina Petrovna Khrushcheva the unofficial First Lady of the Soviet Union. The first residents moved to the area. 62 people living at Konstantin Andrianov Road 1-7 and 76 at Proletariat Road 1-13. A lot of work still remained, some half finished factories and residentials, not to mention a lot of fine tuning, but after giving some instructions architect Vladimir Miletski left for now, giving me the responsibility to finish the first phase.

It is now Christmas again, 6 months since the official opening of Petrovna, and everything has changed. Now more than 1000 people live in the busy suburb. Everything we originally planned, is now done. We are selling food, alcohol and clothes back to Piedansk. Vladimir Miletski came back in October, to lay out plans for a university park. Northeast of the factory area. If we disregard expenses connected to immigration and hired construction workers, we had a nice surplus in November, sadly a small loss in December. Miletski received an important member of The Soviet of Piedansk. It was clear that they did not expect to pay the bills forever.

The following spring we had issues with the water supply, the water quality fell below the recommended drinking quality, resulting in food poisonings from the food and meat supplied from our factories, some decline in the workforce due to increased sickness and even two people dying at Petrovna Lenin Hospital. We did some work at the water pump tube connections, but turned out to be a simple logistic problem with the supply chain management at the warehouse. The manager Stinikov Yaroslavovich was arrested and send to Siberia.

With the opening of Petrovna Technical University, Vladimir Miletski's contract with Piedansk City was done, he left the Petrovna suburb for good, the 4th of August. I had fallen in love, with a girl from the Headquarter of the Piedansk Socialist Soviet in Petrovna and chose to stay. Now I am leading the maintenance and construction department of the suburb, from my office in The Petrova Building. My superiors at The Soviet demand a sustainable growth and economy, no more imported workers and a natural population growth model. My job was to slowly improve and maintain the area, while the party leadership will educate the youth and their families, in the right Marxist – Leninist mindset, to fullfill the true construction of communism.

The last quarter of 1963, I was occupied with a project of lightning up parts of Petrovna Main Road and improve the expression of Valdimir Lenin Square, so that it clearly appeared as the heart of our suburb. Despite the combined effort of the Piedansk Socialist Soviet in Petrovna, we did not succeed in making a positive or at least neutral financial quarter. Mainly due to the harsh weather conditions, slowing down production and the impact my road maintenances at Petrovna Main Road, had on bus lines and supply trucks, taking longer and slower routes. The 21th of October, scientists working at The Petrova Building, made a breakthrough in Logistic Optimization.

During the 1st quarter of 1964, my department finish the work on Valdimir Lenin Square, constructed a new residential building with a kindergarten east of the University Park and started work on a road connection to Valoka City. This was the first quarter in which, Petrovna had a positive balance between income and consumption. Several members of our local Socialist Soviet received a small monetary bonus from our superiors in Piedansk, including myself. Me and my girl, moved to a new larger penthouse apartment at the new building on Technical Road.

In the 2nd quarter of 1964, my department finish the road connection to Valoka City. Also, a huge hammer and sickle monument was erected near the Factory Park bus station. The quarter resulted in relatively high negative figures. The logistic department blamed the transition of grain import from Piedansk City to Valoka City and a buildup of textile stock, but the Piedansk Socialist Soviet was not pleased with the explanations and demanded immediately improvements. Besides this hopefully short setback, the community was thriving. The population now close to 2000 people, just 4% unemployment, an average lifespan of 79.6 years, almost all needs fulfilled to a more than a reasonable level.

The logistic department was right, as soon as the new routes was fully implemented, production reached an all-time high. July 1964 became the most productive month ever, and during the following months especially clothes production continued to reach new record highs. The results were so good that at the end of 3rd quarter, even the running full year was in positive with more than 5 million rubles. This even on a background of some substantial construction work, my department carried out during the period. Construction of a new power supply from Piedansk and laying out underground cables in the area between Piedansk Two Lane Road and Kerecali River. Constructing another residential building near the University Park. Erecting a large mosaic, illustrating the proud Soviet workers, at the entry of Lenin Square from the factory area. Construct a new larger distribution office at Piedansk Two Lane Road.

Winter was coming, and I decided to run as few construction projects as possible, as I knew the snow would slow down transport times and create some chaos on the road net. To ease the impact of winter weather, we invested in another two Czechoslovakian 6 tons snowplows. My office just did three projects in the last quarter of 1964, all finished before the snow came. A small monument, a supermarket at the middle of Petrovna Main Road, and a fire station at Kalinin Road. Financially the quarter ended in a small minus, but on the background of new vehicles investments of 63 million ₽, snowplows, firetrucks and different cargo trucks, that was a fine result. The number of residents grew slowly to 2182.

It was still cold and snowy in January. Tough to start road improvements and building construction. Instead, I chose to make some improvements around the Kerecali River sewage outlet. The sewage work, resulted in a longer shot down in parts of the Factory Area sewage system. Resulting in production stop of cattle and meat. Also, some factory workers were admitted to Petrovna Hospital, with abdominal pain. The smell in the area was horrible, but the issues had minimal economic impact, mainly just resulting in some dissatisfaction among the population, especially due to the meat shortage. The shot down lasted the entire first quarter, we still have a bit of power supply work left, to get the sewage pumps running. The entire first quarter, had a monthly budget surplus.

I was married to Oborina Marina Kirillovna, now Vaslov, at Christmas time 1963, and now we got twins. A girl Lenora and a boy Gusarov was born the 10th of April. The sewage work was done at the 14th of April. The first meat was delivered to Lenin Square Grocery at the evening of the 24th and things would soon be back to normal. Our trucks and construction machinery were getting older, it was time to get a service and repair station. The first service truck arrived the 25th of April. The 10th of June a fire broke out at The Petrova Building, firefighters from Petrovna Fire Station extinguished the fire without any loss of life. Geologists from Petrovna Technical University located an oil depot and soon a pumpjack was establish above the oil reserve. The quarter resulted in a negative balance of 19 million ₽. Included in this was 12 million vehicle import, never the less, the Piedansk Socialist Soviet was definitely not impressed and demanded to see a positive full year 1965. We have to slow down for a period, getting some budget surplus. In the latest quarter, too many small but expensive task have been done simultaneously, in preparation for coming expansions

Although the plan was to limit construction in 3rd quarter, ongoing construction sites was finished, resulting in two new residential buildings. One near the Technical University on Krupskaya Road. The other a small apartment building located on the new Portnove Road, connecting Red Star Road with Socialist Republic Road. Otherwise, the only building constructed in the period was Petrovna Police Station, replacing a shop, made redundant by the larger Petrovna Main Road Supermarket. Besides that, my department continued some infrastructure project, expanding the water supply to the west, laying the foundation of a new western factory area. Education is on a positive spiral, since university education began at The Petrova Building and Petrovna Technical University in late 1963, more and more students graduate, resulting in more and more highly qualified professor able to take on new students. In January 1964, 95 inhabitants had a university degree, today that number is 151. Financially it has been a brilliant quarter, with high surplus in August and September. We already got a running year surplus of more that 14 million ₽, including the high vehicle import of almost 50 million ₽. That is way above expectations.

With a solid financial balance, my department continued infrastructure development and expansion, laying out new roads and underground pipelines. The Petrovna local Soviet asked for more sports facilities, so we also created a fenced soccer field next to Petrovna Main Road Supermarket. As always things started to slow down in late November after some heavy snowstorms.

1965 was a great year for the Soviet, with a full year surplus of 64 million ₽. The most important was sales of clothes, followed by alcohol, bread and fresh meat. The most significant imports were fabric and crops. A typical picture when we got a relative low level of building construction. Over the year we have seen a limited population increase from 2182 to 2210. 439 children born, 167 deaths and 244 people chose to leave Petrovna.

A Court House and Prison was constructed during the winter, since the legal system began to function from the beginning of March, 15 crimes was reported, which game to 14 arrests, so far 11 people was sent to prison. The longest sentence was received by 31 years old Myshelov Gasper Semyonovich, 5 years and 4 months, for several acts of unprovoked violence. Besides the legal buildings, we constructed a small simple apartment building and began work on the first building in the new “West Factory Area”.

Lately we have seen a rise in the prices on the global oil market, at the 19th of march it was about 35% higher than at the beginning of the year, but it seems to stabilize at a somewhat lower level, about 20% above its usual. The effect will be limited for Petrovna, as we currently export oil and import fuel at about the same values. We had a budget surplus of 6.59 million in first quarter, but we expect to see some negative figures during 1966, as we develop the new factories, the related residential apartment building and the necessary import of new trucks and busses that may follow.

The 16th of April a scientist from Petrovna Technical University did an interesting lecture about his studies into stronger and more durable concrete constructions, something that will certainly improve the housing construction of the future. In January a group of workers from the Slaughter House was drinking on Lenin Pub. It ended in a heated argument turning into violence and finally the fatal stabbing of Yuri Lagutin. At the 30th of April, Puzanova Z. Danilovna was sentenced to 15 years and 6 months in prison, the hardest punishment so far, given by a judge from Petrovna Court. The 11th of May a new coal storage at added to Petrovna Heating Plant. Transfer of coal from the old storage, began a few days later. The new textile factory started production near the end of June. Over the 2nd quarter of 1966 we had a budget minus of 6.2 million ₽. Acceptable based on a vehicle import of 15.4 million and rather high construction cost.

July began with very heavy rainfall. All vehicles moving slowly on the slippery roads and pedestrians getting wet on their route to work. Risking a few days of work, if catching a summer cold. In this period, we did some new small and very comfortable homes for the well-educated elite, east of the Technical University. Many road and pedestrian path improvements was carried out and also some expansion of the underground hot water pipe network. Besides that, we sold several slow-moving dumpers and trucks and replaced them with modern faster vehicles.  As expected we ended in minus, back to that when the year finish.
