You missed Marylebone and Moorgate! Stratford is a terminus too, and Clapham Junction is important... good stuff otherwise.

OK, it looks crap but it has more trains passing through per hour than any other station, and it has 25+ platforms.

My favourit trainstation is the oldest trainstation in the Netherlands; Haarlem. It is dated from 1839 and it serviced the fist trainscedule in the Netehrlands between Amsterdam and Haarlem +/-20 kilometers.

The most atonishing part of the station is its interior; teakwooden interior with lots of stainedglass and antique tiles.; here are some pics;

I haven't done much train travel in my life, but I can tell you that the worst station is New York Penn Station. It was nicer when Madison Square Garden did not live on top of it. They have made many improvements to it, and I use it all the time, but there is no way it can compare with stations like Waterloo International in London, or Grand Central Station a couple blocks from Penn.

This railway station is also dubbed the railway cathedral. I was trying to find a picture of the main hall, but I couldn't find any. Especially the main hall is very impressive to enter. It's as if you enter an old Italian church like the Duomo in Firenze. (Especially due to the acoustics, actually!).

London Waterloo, its London's largest station and a good example of classic architecture in the domistic terminal and modern in the international terminal. I am also a regular vister.

Here is some picture of the original station now used as the domistic terminal. Most trains from here go to the UK south coast including Southampton, Portsmouth and Weymouth...

Here are some picture's of the international terminal used by Eurostar for servises to France and Belgium. When the Channel Tunnel Rail Link is complete these will move to St Pancrus and this part of the station will most likley be used for domistic servises....

I'm not generally known for talking up New York City, in fact generally it's the opposite.  But I must say that, having been there on many occasions, Grand Central is a very beautiful, well run station.

Stateside, Washington D.C.'s Union Station is also one of my favorites.

And of course... hometown plug!

Renovations should be done this year with the conversion of surface parking lots out front into a bus terminal.  Care was taken in an attempt to maintain the historic character.

Im going to include this one as its quite an odd station. Portsmouth Harbour.

<ahttp://ww2.portsmouth-college.ac.uk/portsmouth/albums/Portsmouth-from-the-air-2/Harbour_Station.sized.jpg align=baseline>
Yes its on a pier ^^ The station allows people to get strait off of the train from London, Cardiff, Brighton, Southampton and er Portsmouth and onto a boat to the isle of wight.

Spinnaker Tower, sharing the station complex's pier, i guess this could make it the UK's tallest station?

Aah, reminds me of my trip to the UK last week. I would just like to add that the first view when you leave the station is the Steam Battleship (technically a frigate) HMS Warrior, with all her guns in the run-out position. Talk about a warm welcome 2.gif6.gif. And yes, those Desiros operate on the Portsmouth - London-Waterloo route.

Oh yes Portsmouth Harbour is a very intresting station. You look down onto the tracks and you can see the sea!

The trains there are much more on time than they were and newer althougth South West Trains desided to make stopper servises from London Waterloo end at Portsmouth and Southsea (the next station up) obviousley because it thought the station was congested.

I like Portsmouth Harbour, not bad for something that was built in a week. Yup.

The original station was on the recieving end of a V1 Rocket so during the Blitz the station was rush rebuilt, and not much added since apart from a really naff entrance.

I have two favorites.

Mainline Rail, Baltimore Penn Station, they put this ugly statue in front of it, but oh well.

Bal_Penn_Station.jpg

Subway: New York City-- City Hall Station (IRT Lexington Ave. Line) It's been closed since 1945, but it's so incredibly beautiful.

Any train station will do it for me. Just as long as a train comes to it... quote>

lol. i know how that feels. in all of texas the only really functioning train station is Dallas Union Station. It gets 1 or 2 amtrak trains going to chicago and another that goes to oklahoma city, and then several Trinity Rail Commuter Trains to Fort Worth, and also DART Light rail trains go thru constantly. Its still sort of pathetic, but houston's station is a dinky little shack and San Antonio's is pretty and has a modern glass trainshed yet nowadays only sees 1 or 2  trains a day. Austin i've never seen but its probably a dinky little shack like the one in houston.

img_37825.jpg

I would post pictures of the building, except that there are very few pics of it on the net because the station building is used for something else besides train travell

5.gif That's my favourite station too. Of course there may  be a lot of bias involved as I have travelled into it every school day for the past 7 years. Have seen the Gunwharf shopping centre and the Spinnaker Tower gradually go up through the years.

heres some shots of ottawa's old station (no longer in use) and as seen when it was functional. i love the design though it is quite compact compared to many others of that time reflecting the tiny population of our capitol at that time.

my favourite one : Leyton Tube Station somewhere in the Greater London area.

http://leyton.info/transport/images/tube_entrance.jpg

no, actually I am joking it's not my favourite one but I lived there for about 5 months some 10 years ago. I am always very amazed that the tourists guides of London never ever mention these places... they always stick to Covent Garden, Knightsbridge and all tourist traps. The thing is that Leyton has nothing interesting to offer except that it exists, and this is interesting enough to me. 1.gif

Are you referring to the new train station that you can see near exit 16 or so off the Turnpike?? If so, I second that. It's an awesome building, I'll try to find a picture.

On a side note, I've never been on a train in my life. (and I don't consider subways to = trains) 9.gif

got left behind! Gee, wouldn't that suck!

flindy%202.jpg

Here's another station in the eastern suburbs. Camberwell Station:

heres a shot of the new Southern Cross Station. Formely Spencer Street Station.

I also think Victoria and Wwaterloo stations, London are very impreessive having been there alot. Oh yeah, Charing cross is great! We almost missed the train there once, it was funny!

But last of all, a bit of a hole, yes, but my station...

Box Hill Station, Melbourne

It's underneath the shopping centre.\

MetlinkSignBase_313.gif
