have you tried to change the color of the water with one of the water packs to hide the automata?    personally id just call them glass tunnels    great work homer !!

Those are pegasus cdk sea walls.  They work on land as well.  I've done the same stuff for cliffs, they work great!

You can also change the wall style with one of there plugin upgrades.

Don't you get a problem with commute time? I tend to try to do all mine with Highways so as to make the tunnels fast.
