  1. First things being first - Let there be a Region.
  2. Then to help move things along - Let there be a Regional Council - to consist of three houses (one for each possible city size, as ordained by the SimNation Governing Body and denoted by Maxis® ), with a total membership of 73 Sims!.  And -
  3. Behold: here is the Long Waters Region (minus distracting terrain features) with the City Boundaries as originally set by (i.e. agreed upon - after long, and extremely heated debate by) the Long Waters Regional Council:

And for those detail orientated - here are the distracting geographical details after which this region is named:

News Flash!
The Long Waters' Regional Council announced today that they have hired Terraforma, Inc to come in and make minor (at least from the Regional viewpoint) terrain alterations - so as to have the best possible sites for future development.

and

in a footnote to the official press release:  Upon being informed that Terraforma, Inc has an under-the-table arrangement with SimNation (i.e. as part of the contractual details they would arrange for most, that is all-non-port,  'Neighboring City Connections' to be paid for out of funds from SimNation's Treasury) - the Regional Council immediately and unanimously voted to dismiss all other bids and accept the Contract with Terraforma, Inc.

News Update:
Terraforma, Inc announced the completion of the first stage of it's 'Long Waters Project', 15 of the 16 lowland cities are now awaiting the appointments of mayors by the Long Waters Regional Council.

Further updates are pending the completion of additional stages of Terraforma, Inc's 'Long Waters Project'.

Man, this region is very cool. But i have a question - is there one canal that goes through every city, right?

It would be really intresting to look at the transportation map of this region. Keep it up :}

    Actually, according to the above script - there is one (very curvy and) extremely Long River that actually does run through each and every city in the region; there are also twelve (count'em - 12) river segments that connect to one (or more) SimNation River(s).

    Hope to have more pre-city pictures before the year (2005) ends,

    Interesting region, I like the idea of the long river/waters.

    It looks a bit flat at the moment, but as yous say it is a work in progress...

    I like the first words of the introduction; the Biblical style makes you think something big and epic's going to come.

    I would really like to see what you will do with this weirdly-terraformed region.  I see, looking at the picture, long and narrow lands as well as the X-shaped lands.  Will each part have a different function in the region/be used differently?  A weird question, but that's what strikes me.

    Yes, pickled_pig, I intend each differently shaped city to serve a different function (however - should others get hold of this region - I hope they do - they may have their own independant designs to try).  However, the Long Waters Regional Council's plan is as follows:
    • The above '16 lowland Cities' (X shaped?) will have a Major concentration of one or more types of Industry (4 of IA, and 12 with a mix of ID & IM);
    • 16 of the below River Cities (the ones' with a river BEND in them) will have a Major concentration of Residential Zones - hence the 'Bedroom' description;
    • The remaining 32 River Cities (the ones' withOUT a river bend) will be evenly(?) split between Residential (on the high grounds) and Industrial (ID/IM/IHT on the low grounds);
    • The 9 'Mesa/Fortress Cities' (final terraforming picutre coming soon) are to be Major Commercial Centers.
    -or- Another way of looking at this is:
    • Low ground (approximately 1 step above water) is intended for Industrial Parks (IA, ID, IM & polution producers);
    • High ground (roughly 30 steps up) is intended for Residential (with limited Commercial Services) development;
    • Mesa ground (over 30 steps up) is intended for Commercial development (CO and CS);
    • with a few variances - thrown in? - intended for IHT development.

    News Update:
    Terraforma, Inc announces the completion of the second & third stages of it's 'Long Waters Project', the last lowland city and 48 river cities are now awaiting appointments of mayors by the Long Waters Regional Council.

    Foot Note: the fourth stage of the 'Long Waters Project' is awaiting an end to the current filibuster (for an approval/acceptance vote) in the Long Waters Regional Council.

    Please note - the below views are of actual different cities - not JUST different views of two cities (although with the cookie-cutter pattern one may be forgiven for thinking differently).

    It's certainly a unique region - it looks like something I might doodle in the margins of my paper during a boring meeting. Should make for a fun city. 2.gif

    Side Note - up to this point Neither Modds nor Cheat Codes have been used - I did the above with just the 'in-game-tools' supplied by Maxis.  Which is more than can be said for the Long Waters Regional Council's plans - I hear they are already trying to decide just where to place the first, of hundreds of, MMSBP-stations (Modern Monorail&Subway&Bus&Parking station by brenda-xne of simtropolis).

    News Flash!
