This doesn't seem quite right.

This smacks of a cover up when you arrest members of the press for reporting a scandal.

The vatican is a very small state. The last sentence "If convicted, all five could be jailed for up to eight years." makes me wonder - where by whom? On the base of which law? To my knowledge Emiliano Fittipaldi and Gianluigi Nuzzi both are italian citizens. I doubt italy would extradite their citizens to vatican.

So I take the risk on this and do the clairvoyant: these two will never be charged for anything, they never will be put in the vatican jail. This would provoke a serious conflict between two sovereign states.

Another thing is the infighting in vatican against pope franciscus. And the vatican citizens that are arrestet.

Article 23 of the Lateran Treaty provides for the execution of Vatican City judgments in Italy in accordance with international law, while those from the Holy See concerning religious persons in spiritual or disciplinary matters have immediate effect in Italy.

As is to be expected, few if any problems.
