Where to buy?

Hi all, soon to be new to SimCity.  I am wondering where I can buy it for download that does not have DRM, ahem.... like Origin.

I am an Origin user unfortunately with my daughter's love of The Sims.  There is issues though being connected to Origin with 2 computers seeing that she is always playing The Sims, LOL (I've tried out playing Sims 3 while she was playing Sims 4 on another computer and it doesn't always work well.)

I know nothing about downloading purchased games.  Since it is available to Amazon, I would like to purchase through Amazon, but I see Origin mentioned in the reviews.  That could just be someone reviewing with having purchased through Origin and not through Amazon.

know nothing about Steam and it seems to be a pretty common place for purchasing games.  Would this be DRM free?

I basically want to make sure there is no utilities that have to be running in order to run it in download form.

Thanks, Mike

Well, I got mine from GamersGate.com.  You can also try GOG.com or Amazon.com.  Steam is also a DRM pretender, so ...

Hello new Simcity person. I've been playing Simcity since the first one. I've been playing my game off steam with no hiccups. A good thing about steam is you can take pictures using steam and store them. Personally, I think steam is OK with the DRM issue.

Just don't try to install the BAT.

Thanks for the few replies.  I got it and have already started building 2 cities that all residential moved out, LOL.  I have an idea on a region I downloaded that I want to do, mimic Pittsburgh with 3 rivers converging with the downtown area being in the triangle and lots of bridges and overpasses on the roads.  Not trying to replicate Pittsburgh, just to build something similar with a "City of Bridges" style.  Think I need to start really small rather than diving in like I did twice now, LOL.

Good luck with that.  It is always better to work up to larger endeavours.

I would also suggest reading through the 'The Eager, Yet Overwhelmed Newcomer' thread in this forum.  It is a good place to start.

Yeah, already read through that and many others I've browsed.  I downloaded NAM and looked at that stuff, but it's confusing.  I can't seem to get anything to work with it.  Looking at a thread on the front page about FAR, it seems a little strange to do, not just clicking the end of the roads and getting what you want.  I ended up with a road at 18 degrees or something and couldn't do anything but keep dragging it on.  Tutorials aren't real easy to find on the net for NAM.  Will have to try youtube, but videos don't run very well on the current laptop I'm using.  Looking at the thread on the front page of this forum section, it seems like you have to build 2 small (or more) sections of roads with endpoints or something, then that gets replaced with some of the tools like the curves and such.

I think I really need to figure that out as I have the vision of roads and railroads following along many river banks and the tools in NAM looks like the way to do it.  Might just load one of the stock regions and just play a while with NAM.

Actually that is how I learned NAM.  I watched a few videos and then I created a sandbox region.  I just kept building different transportation network configurations to learn how things worked.  Then I would go to my region and used what I learned to build my networks.  Anytime I thought of a new configuration, I would go to my sandbox region, figure out how to build it, then return to my working region and build it there.

BTW, I like your avatar.  I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan.

NAM documentation and stuff on U-tube is getting a little long in the tooth as things develop.  Your best best is the aforementioned sandbox and experimentation.  One thing that you can use to your advantage is that you can turn off much of the NAM using the custom install options and only play with the things that are of current interest.  You can rerun the installer to add/subtract features as often as you like.

I've been playing this game since it came out, and I assure you my problems are worse than yours.
