whats the highest population i can have in a city on a medium sized map?

That all depeneds on how you lay it out . In may population exparaments I got 8 million in a mid sized reagion . But this meathed used every way there was to cram in sims . A totaly res city grown to ALL high wealth  high rises then cut water and power and they leave .Then hick up taxes on $$$ and $$ and  only alow $ in .

   But in a more real city without any short cuts and a balanced $ $$ $$$ poplation .If its all res then probly around 4 million max.

  and to be realy nice more like 2 million . all res city. Thats with lots of civic and parks.

Yes, it really depends. The most I have had in a medium map was 250K, but I planned out my city with a majority of it being middle density, not full. You could always try this experiment. I tend to think if it was a really nice city,  we could pull up populations to about 1 Million. That's just an estimate though.

To be honest I really don't know, you can carry out this expirement by making everything high density. It really depends if you want realism or not.
