How to make abandoned buildings look darkened?

I have been playing the game a few months now (on Mac) and recently I saw that abandoned buildings in other people's cities will often appear darkened.  Is there a MOD for this or is it something I have to turn on in the game itself as a play setting?  I think I would find it extremely helpful to have all the abandoned buildings pointed out for me with a color change.

Also, I cannot figure out how to turn music on in the game.  All the settings seems to indicate it should be playing but nothing plays.  The rest of the sound works fine.  I mean it's only one button... Music: yes or no.  Am I missing something obvious or did I purchase a flubbed-up copy of this game?

The abandoned building look is something that is present in the default game. Why you're not seeing this, I have no idea. Is it the new SC4 Mac re-release that you're playing?

This is what the read me says:

SimCity 4 Rush Hour Expansion Pack
    Macintosh Version 1.1
    August 2004

After installing the base package from the Aspyr agent thingy I was required to install a patch called "SC4RHMac1-1.1RevA".  I have just under 4 bazillion mods, lots, and bats but none of them say anything about affecting abandoned buildings.  Even if I clear out my plugins I still do not see abandoned buildings being highlighted in any way.  I kind of had the feeling it was a default thing in the game so maybe I just have a copy with some bugs or maybe that is just typical of this particular publish of the game?

Oh well... it's no big deal but would be helpful.  If I find a cause/solution I'll update this post.

Makes me wonder if I have other glitches too.

    Thanks for the response.

I think you'd be better off to use Aspyr's new edition that came out recently.  Music is a matter of making sure that the key file is present.  Take a look in your structure for the proper set up for music:

Here is a file system tree of the Radio directory from my installed game (Linux/Windows) at .../Maxis/SimCity 4 deluxe/

Note the two files with the .id extension, one for mayor mode and one for region mode.  Both must be present (empty) for music to work.

In all honesty, you  would be better off playing the Windows version of the game using Bootcamp or wine.  I don't think Asypr did a very good job from all reports.
